I'm giving some thought to getting a new trailer, anticipating some long-distance trailering this year. Any comments on Boatmate? I'd do the single-axle for my '96 SN, anticipating a Sport at some point.

Thanks,

Mark

I think Longhorn had one made and sent it back.  You could probably PM him for info.

89 SN - Went to live on a lake in Texas

We had one custom made for our Barracuda and are very happy with it.

I know there’s plenty happy with Boatmate but I think they’re Sh1t. They refused to build me one with a 6 lug axle, said they will only use 3500lb 5 lug axles, and on a single axle trailer that doesn’t cut. Boatmate said it’s fine. Sh1tty single layer paint job. And every time I go to the local trailer manufacturer in Orlando that built the preferred Correct Craft trailer for over 20 years, they have semi loads of Boatmates trailers there, they come in complete. When I ask about them, the Orlando manufacturer claims most dealers are unhappy with the way Boatmate loads so they have them sent to Orlando to get fixed before going to the customer. Plus a new single axle boatmate with the all trimmings 2 years ago was $5800 or $6800. I’d put my boat an universal trailer before I put it on a Boatmate Turd.

Man, that's harsh, LOL.  I don't think I own anything I feel that badly about.  I think it's really nice trailer.  But, it hasn't gone too far yet.  We have a few trailers including a fairly new Ramlin and a Perfomance trailer, and neither of those seem better to me.

And they didn’t have the shade of pink Todd really wanted

Boatmate could do a lot of things better, they all could...

Bruce,  Is that the Aluminum diamond plate on the steps?  If so make sure you seal the entire perimeter of it with silicone so no water gets under it.  I had to replace both fenders and repair the steps on my Boatmate because they rusted right through.  BM attaches that plate with double face tape and it leaves a pocket for water to collect and no amount of care after use can get it out of there.  I put seadeck in place of it when I replaced the fenders but this was all on a 6 year old trailer.

I feel almost as strongly as Todd with the cheap paint job,  if a trailer manufacturer really wanted to step up their game then dipping them before paint would be a game changer in my eyes.  These things start to rust basically from day one.

One thing I will say for Boatmate is they seem to be pretty friendly with their parts pricing.  It was cheaper for me to replace the fenders than to repair as you can order them painted including pinstripes so they match very well.

Alan, It is aluminum diamond plate.  Thanks for the tip.  I'll have to seal that up as I am hopping to put some hours on it this year.  Trailer looks like new after a 4-5 years because it's probably gone 20 miles.

The correct term is “Hollywood Panty Pink”.

I purchased an adjustable all aluminum Magic Tilt for my Debonnaire about 6 months ago. Tandem torsion axles, all LED lights and spare tire carrier was less than $4k. In my opinion even the best steel trailers will rust eventually.

I've said it before I'll say it again - If I were to have a Phoenix built for me I'd ask if they could forget the winch and roller and see if they would build a Ramlin style bow stop. Then when it was all done I would seriously look for a Ziebart dealer and have them coat the insides of all the frame rails.

Phoenix bow roller on my SS

Ramlin's stop-

My solution so far - I have the winch mounted to the old roller mount but might change it to bow stop upright

Would also like the rear guides mounted further up as well since the boat with the narrow stern can move sideways while loading

Gary...my Phoenix has a bow stop......just like the Ramlin pic. Great trailer......in my opinion.
My previous Phoenix had the bow stop too.

Good to hear Steve. The paint job on mine is really good and holding up great. Quality hardware and running gear as well.
