I have a 1985 with a 351
Smokes alot at idle, can't seem to stop it.
I put a new marine carb on a fwe years back, wondering if its jetted different? or something. Doesn't seem to be an adjustment for idle mixture.

Look down the carb when its running and see if its dripping...

Black smoke is gas, blue smoke is oil. What color do you have?

I believe it is black smoke - boat doessn't burn any oil. I do end up with black residue on the back of the boat.

What kind of carb did you put on it? I've never seen one that has no idle mixture adjustment. Some new carbs have the adjustment screws covered and sealed to prevent adjustment, but the seals can be removed when adjustments are necessary. How does the boat run? If the idle mixture is very rich, it will foul spark plugs and run rough.
