Something's been bugging me for the whole nine months I have been working on our '82 Ski Tique that I bought in pieces - why two speedometers?
Thanks, Shaughn.

The two speedos come from competition skiing. During hard turns one side of the boat lifts enough that the pitot tube will not read properly or at all. IE.... the second speedo. You always know the boat speed.

Nate:

Hard to believe (not saying you are wrong). During competition skiing, you are hardly ever making hard turns...any skiing for that matter. It is just for redundancy and to notice a false reading due to trash clogging one of the pickups. In competition skiing of old, you had to know the boat speed accurately. So, not good if trash clogged a pickup and a) you never know and pull the skier at the wrong speed or b) you had to stop and blow out the pressure line.

Your right loosing a speedo in competition is a major problem and two speedos are more accurate than one.

Only problem is if one is slower than the other, which one do you correct if you don't have a GPS or a slalom course to go by?

Get a buddy with a calibrated speedo in his boat and drive side by side (keep safe seperation) at a predetermined speed of say 36mph. Then dial yours in.

When tournament skiing they also use a stopwatch to time the boat to verify the correct speed.
