Thanks Mike, it really helps to narrow it down. I might lean toward the Venture, will take one more look this afternoon and get an order placed.

It will be kind of frustrating to have the box arrive and have to put it in a corner for 7-8 months!

IMO, the LF Venture, and the CWB Ride are both great all around boards for beginning and intermediate surfing w/o breaking the bank. Hyperlite has a few too although I've never ridden them.
Surf style boards seem to be a little smoother while learning and the skim style boards are fun, but usually a little shorter and require a little more "language" to ride . You can learn on both. The compression molded boards are heavier, but more durable than the surf construction boards.
I have an O'Brien Alias that was under $200 new and has taught literally 30+ people how to surf over the last year.
I'd pick up one of those Ventures or a Ride on sale for under $200 in a heartbeat if I was looking for a board. Should be able to get years of enjoyment and if you love it and want to upgrade,it's a great cheap board to keep for guests.

Mike, I'd like to give wakesurfing a try next year. Could you recommend a board, I'd love to go cheap but obviously want something that will work. I've never tried it, am about 200 lbs.

Thanks in advance!
