I am considering buying a southwind or fish tique and keeping it in a salt water berth in california. I notice most correct crafts are trailored. Is it a terrible idea to keep the boat in the water. Thanks in advance

As with any boat, the gelcoat can blister if left in the water for extended periods of time, not to mention the barnicles that will collect on the bottom. Consequently, in my '93 SN manual, CC recommends painting the bottom of the hull (anti-fouling paint?) if left in the water.
Also, you must install a flushing kit (and sea cock) that will allow you to flush the engine with fresh water after each use amd while the boat is still in the water. |

Good advice, I definitely plan on painting the hull with anti-fouling paint and putting a closed cooling system in the boat. How do these southwinds perform as a fishing boat. I do a lot of salmon fishing in my 17 foot Boston Whaler and I'm cinsidering the southwind as a replacement. Something a little more family friendly?
