Guys, been here only a couple weeks, but am impressed at the depth of knowledge. Would you mind scanning these for obvious issues. I think it is solid, and it ran great on lake yesterday. But if you could call out issues, wrong distrib, etc I’d appreciate it.

Looks to me like your old boss, kept things original and marine approved.

It's the original Prestolite marine distributor and the one black wire says " there are points under the cap"

You also have the original gray cover over the starter relay, ballast resistor and main breaker that's heat warped like most of them do.

In your other thread you were asking about preemptively replacing the damper plate..... that might lead to preemptively rebuilding the transmission and then maybe moving on to an engine rebuild, and replacing the driveshaft and the prop so leave it alone since you don't mention having  having any funny noises coming from back there.

You had also asked raw water pump questions

You can get a rebuild kit like was mentioned or you can find knockoffs of the Sherwood G-21 (made somewhere across the Pacific) doe really reasonable (AKA cheap) prices that numerous people have bought.

I don't remember any bad reviews of these pumps and they're all bronze and brass Wink

The Sherwood has a cast iron bearing housing that can get pretty ugly and corroded

Much more water ingress yesterday than expected. Assuming prop shaft packing. Can’t freewheel prop at all. ( Edit: false, it freewheels just fine as I remove flange bolts ) About to disassemble to check alignment. Setup looks a lot like that of our long departed 99 Moomba.

Thank you for reviewing pics. Boss (David) was very focused on this boat.   I found empty box from a new Sherwood with a 2009 copyright ref, so at least it’s been done before. Need to report back to him soon on utilization of boat, feeling pressure to make it right and show pics of boat and skiers.    Am scope creep aware, no noises from that area. Pulled sons 86MC trans to sleeve the input shaft and wound up investing in that damper. Maybe this winter for this boat.

Keno, thank you, and great stewardship on that young man’s boat thread, Richmond area, shows character sir!

Like you said, it sounds like an alignment issue.
