Your first Boat

Thanks JBear! Here is a crazy story about the 77', while on Glen Lake in Michigan my buddy ran the boat up on a rock/sand bar while I was skiing, luckily late on Sunday, bent the crap out of the prop and shaft, on the way home we are on I-80 and hit a slow down, the guy behind me rear ends the boat, knocked the rudder off, bent up the ladder a bit and maybe bent the bent prop and shaft, well his insurance paid to fix all that anyway as well as a new teak deck cause they couldn't get replacement parts for the ladder. Somebody was looking out for me that day!

First boat purchased Dec 6, 2006.
86 Ski Nautique 2001 purchased for $5600 and got the best deal of my life. PCM 454ci, transformed from a typical ski nautique into a modern wakeboarding machine equipped with a 1500lb ballast system, monster tower, acme 540, ipod hook up, pioneer stereo, polk speakers, polk subwoofer, dual battery, and lastly a heated drivers seat...still need to install that.

I definitely need a recording of some monster loud exhaust for my IPod so we can scream that out the speakers! Perhaps when Benji pulls his out he could stick a microphone in one of those rear exhaust holes he has got.

Its all about priorities. I have a bank account with nothing in it, i drive an 88 suburban, with a sweet boat. And i wouldn't change a thing (except maybe id have a super sport)

We've had lots of new members to the forum over the last few months. Thought I would bring this thread back to the top.

Would be great to see photos of your first boat and hear your story as to what go you into boating and CCs.

I had the Supra since 96 (got it from Tom at Adirondack Marine)(after passing on a BFN he had....if I knew then what I knew now...but actually no complaints, the Supra was a fine boat.) When we got our place in NC in 2004, I couldnt see hauling the supra back and forth, especially since I didnt have a vehicle that would do it. I thought I would get some small "it will do" boat for NC, like the old Baja outboard I used to have. But in the back of my mind, I really hoped to find a 60s mustang like we had when I was a kid. CCF was in its infancy then and there werent a lot of boats in the diaries. There was one listing on here for a 66 Al Tyll. I called the guy (in Wolfboro NH) and he told me he had the Tique too. Rest is history. After a couple years, I decided I could haul the Tique back and forth and sold the Supra since it was starting to become a bother to maintain. I like the Tique, but I still wouldnt mind a 60s mustang. My bother came close a couple years ago when he bought his 67 Skylark. I would consider a trade for a mustang, but the Tique makes a better ski boat.

Larry, I always liked those Supras. Back when we were looking for a boat in the early 90's, our main interest was a 2001, but we were open to MC or Supra. The Malibu Skier came along, (we had never seen or really heard of them) and the rest is history. It's been a great boat, but considering the decent condition it is in, if it were a 2001, it would be right up there with Brad or Kens.

Funny you mention the skier. That is what I almost got instead of the supra. I found one in NJ and was already to make the trip down and look at it/get it, but then decided that was kind of a long spec trip, so I went up to Adirondack to look at the Supra instead. The swoopy lines didnt appeal at first, but I got used to them. I liked the malibu lines a lot more. The BFN he had was a little raggedy, so I didnt get it. Internet wasnt really up to speed in 96 and there were very few boats locally, it was a difficult search. Tom also showed my a late 70s nautique he had. Again, if I knew then...

I spent 10,500 for the supra, had it 11 years and sold it for 7,400. Pretty cheap ride for that many years. It looked as good the day I sold it (below) as the day I got it.

Donovan, glad we've lured you in from the "lurking" status. Post lots of pics of the restoration process. We love those things around here. It's also great to have posters from around the world. I think we now have regular posters from every continent except Antartica. I too have an 82SN with the same color scheme as yours, currently sitting beside my house stripped with the stringers tore out. I'll finish it someday.

I will get all my pics together and will create another thread with my resto without recreating that of Skibum. Although i've always grown up with boats, it's a privilege to be able to say that my first boat was a correct craft! I'll be doing the final run in glassing the last stringer down today then time for bulkheads and foam.

The Whaler is our first. I cut my teeth behind a SN and have always lusted after them. But I grew up and learned to ski and slalom behind Whalers on the Chesapeake and her shallow, muddy inlets where the BWs were right at home.
Now if you want to see a pic of our first CC...'64 Atom
but I'll warn you, she's a basket case and won't hold a gallon of water right now, let alone pull a skier!
