I've been wearing a fairly thick body glove vest for a number of years, but it is just too bulky. So I thought I'd store it on board to meet USCG and get something more appropriate.

Masterlineusa.com Eagle vest. They can even custom tailor if you are not on off the rack guy. I ordered my comp vest with more floation, not coast guard level but slightly more than many comp vests. Nice compromise to protect ribs, light weight, increased buoyancy for deep water starts.

I use a Stokes vest. World renown UK skier, Thomas Asher started the company. It’s lab exceptional vest, definitely not meant to be inexpensive but in this case you get what you pay for. I think mine was $160 or so. I previously had an O’Neil Slasher vest from Paerformalne Ski & Surf in Orlando, perfski.com. The slasher was about $129 five years ago. A good vest to be sure but after 5 years seems to have lost a bit of flotation.

Ski it again .com has good last year model vest for sale. Dealers wanting to move them from inventory to make room for the 2021 models. I use an outlaw vest and I love it. It is not a high dollar vest.

I love my new HO Syndicate comp vest. Very comfy. I’m a big guy in a shallow lake so the comp vest is fine. I keep my USCG under the observer seat in case the local fish cops do an inspection. Come to think of it, I’ve not had an inspection in 7 years…
In all seriousness, if you are skinny with little or no body fat, the comp vest may not provide sufficient flotation in a bad fall and you are rendered inert. JQ

Of course, get what you want, but I always feel compelled to give my standard PSA when this comes up. Are you a deep short line competition skier. If not, I would stick with a CGA vest. I have had two friends do serious rib damage in the past couple years wearing what is little more than a heater shirt vest. Those things are essentially worthless as far as protection and floatation. Why take the added risk if you dont need that extra flexibility to catch that one extra ball at 39 off.

What Larry said. At least about the floatation. The Comp vests are not USCG approved because they won’t float you if you become unconscious. Every once in a while you hear about a surfer who inhales CO or someone takes a hit to the head and they sink before the boat can get back to them. No thanks.
I finally caved this year and got my wife a Comp for swivel skiing… the lower speed/non impact stuff (which legally doesn’t require a pfd, at least in CT) is ok I guess… for slalom, pass. YMMV |

I concur Tim,
The one time failed to buckle my USCG vest, I just kept skiing with the zipper. Well I took a once in 20 year slappah at max cut, ski spooned the wake, I heard shriek in boat then went black. Vest zipper opened up, and it was over my shoulders behind my back holding arms behind my back.had just enough consciousness to unwrap myself, concussed, Only USCG with buckles for me and my fold |

I'm using a vest I've had for quite a few years now, just a
standard zip and 2 buckle one. I'm not shy about upgrading equipment
but it's comfortable, functional, and I just am not sure what I'd gain
as a slalom hack by getting a newer lighter vest. So USCG and a bit old
school for me as well.
