I have a 1998 ski nautique with GT40 & PCM 1.23 transmission, the 40 model.
Last time out in November, all was good, boat ran fine. When I got home and pulled plug, my hand comes back up full of transmission fluid. Didn't notice any issues while out, all shifting and running was smooth. Level of fluid in tranny is just barely hitting bottom of dipstick. Here's the deal. I work on some of the engine stuff when needed, but have never dealt with a transmission. I'm in Austin and the local dealer, Sail & Ski, was bought out by Marine Max. New policy is don't work on anything over 20 years old. they gave me the name of some dude who says, " I work on engines, not transmissions" My options for a good mechanic seem quite limited. I would think this is a seal issue, but not positive. So, a couple of questions: 1. Is it a really bad idea to just fill back up with fluid and see what happens? 2. Anyone know of a good mechanic within an hour of Austin? Thanks, Chris

I remember a Mercedes dealer in Indiana that would stop working on their cars at 100,000 miles. I always thought it was a bad business model to sell a very expensive product and not support it after 100,000 miles. They went out of business. When I think of Marinemax I think of Home Depot. They are there to sell product
nothing else. The local dealer switched from Nautique to Tige no great loss I never used them anyway. Your trans has probably got a front seal leaking . Its not a bad job but the trans has to come out.

Question #1.............it's probably a good idea, you may have to run it to make it leak again and see where it's coming from. Don't forget things like the cooler hoses and their fittings at the cooler and the transmission as possible leak sources. You should at least hope it's something like the hoses and fittings because the fix would be a lot easier
