So i just picked up a boat from my brother's older neighbor. 500 bucks. He has ran it every year since 90 until covid. Wanted some young kid to have it. To fix it and enjoy. I'm pretty excited. The stringers and floor are really good. One small soft spot.maybe a dollar bill size. Engine has 900 hours and is solid. Put a battery in and it fired right on old gas. I'm pulling carpet and want to re-do the paint for the logos. Looking for recommendations on both. I'm keith btw nice to meet all of you

You can't buy a trailer for $500.   Welcome aboard.   Get it cleaned up and post some pictures!  Congratulations.

I agree with Mark on both comments....$500 and needing pictures...before and after pictures are always great ideas.  Welcome.

so the previous owner took the intake pipe off for the water to engine. He said he could never get the fake-a-lake to work. Im gonna hook it back up to try tommorow. i dont wanna dissatach the hose ever time to flush out. I have used the fake a lake to many times to count, on our old sanger and centurion. is there something special or differnt about this set up? or did he not know what he was doing?

Keith,
What are you flushing out? Are you boating in salt or brackish water?

This is a home-made hose adapter, easy & low bucks to install.  Sorry for C&P but I can't get link function to work anymore.

Then go with the "Timmy tee" that Chris linked above.

The only issue using the plunger style is they may not seal very well on cooling water intakes that are recessed into the hull. But, even with leakage they should work. I have no problems with my 77.

A couple nice things with the "Timmy tee" are you don't need to crawl under the boat but also the big one is it will not mask cooling problems because there's no pressure added to the system from the hose.

I have always used the plunger that's why I was curious. My lake is on an Indian reservation that is opening next week after a long shutdown for covid. So I'm gonna get things ready for one trip out before winterizing the thing for winter

Keith,
From a previous post, here's some SKU's from the HD if you want to install the "Timmy":

As promised, I did some shopping today in the plumbing dept. before it got too crazy with customers.

Here are the "Timmy Tee" components available at the HD. If your local store doesn't stock them, all are available on line at the HD website.

The actual tee is SKU: 1002-245-987 This is 1" barb x 1/2" FPT

Here's the garden hose adaptor. SKU: 0000-865-599 It's 1/2" MPT x 3/4" FGHT

Finally the hose valve. SKU: 0000-442-559 3/4" MGHT x 3/4" FGHT swivel

I have two plungers / fake lakes in my garage, since installing the Timmy T I never touch the plungers.   I put a hose on//off connector on the end of my hose so I can take it in the boat fully pressurized.  Hook it up to my TimmyT and turn on the water while in the boat and start it.  Makes everything really simple and fast.  At the same Home Depot you can find the simple hose valve, mine is made of brass with a thumb lever to open and close the hose.

Great looking old Nautique by the way.   I had a 78 and put 1,500 hours on that boat.  I still miss those flip out windshield vents, they sure were used on all of our 100* ski days.  None of the newer boats have that option anymore.  Wow, $500.   I sold my 78 in 1990 for $7,500 and they still seem to hold that value today if in good shape.

Try a Group 65 battery.

It's 12 1/16 long by 7 1/2 wide by 7 9/16 tall.

You can measure your battery box and then you'll know Wink

A Group 24 fits in the hole but might be a little tall

Here's a handy battery size chart in the link. With a ruler and the chart you'll be all set.

I work as an automotive tech and have a big interstate battery selection. When I got to work I remembered about it. Was just hoping someone knew of hand what it was so I didn't have to measure when I got home🤣

In that case, take home a group 65 Wink

From an old thread here on CCF

A group 65 will NOT fit in the under-seat battery compartment of the 60's and early 70's boats. I do not recall what size battery Im running in the Skier and Mustang, but its smaller than a 65.

Last night was a bitter sweet night. Ingot I got the boat a week ago.. made sure everything was in working order. Got the new battery and ran it with a fake lake. Order -100f coolant at work at winterized the engine. Cleaned the interior and polished the deck. Going to shrink wrap the top of the boat this weekend for winter. Woke up today to 15f weather. Don't get to use it until late may here. I guess it's a great time to redo the paint🌞

So Krash...............Since you got the battery, was it a Group 65 and did it fit right?

That way when the next guy searches for "79 Ski Nautique battery" he'll have an easy time finding his answer Wink

I didn't have a 65 but the dimensions are close to an h6 so that's what I grabbed and it fit well
