Dang, that color combo is rad dude!
Love it.
- Gun control means: using BOTH hands!
- Money doesn't make one happy, but when it rains cats and dogs, it's still better to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle...

Fiberglass shop made some serious progress this week. 1.5" carbon graphite costa board was used as the inlay, then everything was glassed into place. The walls of the walk through were also glassed into place. This portion of the deck is pretty stout now.

Here are some pics of what the transition looked like when I started this restoration. There was a gaping hole between the deck and floor. The floor of the deck sat 1.5" below the floor of the boat. Nautique used a carpeted inlay to make the floor level. The inlay was just screwed into place and was prone to water being trapped underneath it. I didn't want to have that issue again and I wanted the transition to be seamless.

Very nice seamless transition with very little elevation change. Classy.

Just a bit of embellishment on those terms, LMAO.

Dominic, do you have any sense of how the final weight of the restored boat will compare to the original?

Looks like awesome progress!

It's going to be heavier for certain. I am willing to bet with all of the gelcoat, fiberglass, and additional supports throughout it probably added 500lbs. We used upwards of 15 gallons of gelcoat which is about 150 lbs on it's own. Could be way off though.

I can't remember in aluminum heads and intake were used. That's some savings for sure. Carpet vs. seadek is likely close. The dual stainless exhaust might add a touch over stock. I wouldn't think more than a hundred or so lbs either way over factory. Did your Sport have the ballast tanks option? Can't wait to get down there and see it!

I stuck with cast iron heads and intake. This boat did have factory ballast.

Here's the finished product of the walk thru. The walls of the walk thru were reinforced and then glassed inside and out. Aluminum supports are no longer needed. Looks really good. Boat is now going through its final wet sand and buff.

Hey Dom, how are things going? Flying still a bit slow, so no Texas trips, but I suspect by summer we'll be down and back somewhat more regular and I can give you a pull!

BTW, anything come from the previous engine guy?

Hope all is well and chime in anytime.

Mark

Guys, I apologize for not updating the thread. Life has just been crazy right now. Preparing to get married May 15th along with starting a new job in a new city and applying for an MBA. Needless to say, time has become limited.

I finally settled with the engine builder and got about half of my money back. Definitely a very aggravating experience but I am over it. To add a little fuel to the fire, somehow my 40a developed a severe leak while in storage. Not sure how but I'll now be going the new 80a transmission route. Apparently those are backorder along with everything else.

The boat is still at John's. I haven't been pushing it simply because I haven't had the time to focus on it. My dad's birthday is in June so I am hoping to at least have the windshield, decals, and trim on it so I can surprise him. We will see. I'll try to post a more substantial update soon.

If you weren’t having any transmission problems before the leak and if it is leaking from the front (bell housing) seal I wouldn’t worry too much because that is an easy seal to replace and you could continue to use your 40a. I can’t comment on the coupling end seal as I have never replaced or needed to replace one. Others will comment.

Thanks for the update Dom, steady as she goes. If you do source the 80a trans, I’d be interested in your 40a. Easy enough to get it snobs Texas trip.

Thanks,

Mark

It seems like the leak is coming from underneath the trans. It’s hard to tell as I found it in a puddle of its own transmission fluid. I must be striking out with these 40a’s. My 95 super sport is leaking from the bell housing. Unfortunately, pulling the trans on a vdrive is not something I am looking forward to.

I can confirm, the 40a front main seal is a common leak point, easy to replace, and a pain with a v-drive.

Boat will be home in two weeks for final assembly. Decals are on. I hired domednumbers.com to recreate the oem Nautique font and all of the oem decals including the "flight control system on board" and "EFI". Except now this engine has sequential EFI from Holley so I figured a slight modification to the decal was required. Recreating the font and decals was a lot harder than I imagined but they did a phenomenal job! And, they are domed and glossy which I think adds a nice touch. They are neutral white, tan, and gold metal flake.
