So the good news is, I think I got my ignition problems licked (Jury is still out, as I got side tracked and only ran it for about 5 seconds)

The bad news is, when it fired up (I was sitting on port gunnel using a remote starter) the throttle was almost wide open. As I lunged over to pull throttle back, I apparently misjudged the clearance between the spinning alternator and my leg.

an ambulance ride and 28 staples later, good to go.

You are brave to post the injury.

Maybe someone else will avoid making same mistake.

I feel lucky to have all my fingers & toes, with some of the DS moves I have made.

Larry,

Honestly, I would of lied about it. Something like I was Bare footing in the lilly Pads in the St. John River and a 20' pissed off gator that I was footing with took a nip at me. Then you would be a legend. Sometimes, honesty is not the best policy.

Glad you are ok and did not stain the hull of that white boat.

Welcome to the club there Larry Boy or should I say Larry Bob? Nice wound....very nice indeed! It'll leave a conversation starter of a mark for sure. I'da gone with a barefoot rope slashing. " Yeah, I took a header and somehow the rope got around me leg and did a number on it. I'm more PO'd about my Dry Suit getting trashed."   Everyone thinks my knee injury was done by a chainsaw but truth is that the Slalom Fin bit back rounding ball #5. Be thankful it was February wound and not a May wound like mine. It kept me off the ski for about a month in Premo weather.

For those who may not be familiar with it...…….. Morfoots Ski Fin Bites Back

It was Groundhog Day Larry...When you wakeup today it will be nothing but a memory.

Heal quickly my friend! Good thing your Field Goal services won't be needed today!

That’s another good reason to buy a V-drive. All of those spinning thingies are out of reach. Glad you’re put back together, Larry. That was a very ugly bit of work that alternator did on you.

All things considered, I slept pretty well last night, but whenever I woke up, all I could hear was the sound of those blades tearing away at my leg.

Oddly enough, it did not bleed much. Good thing. I was home alone. Significant bleeding might not have ended well

Actually, not too bad. Fentanyl enroute, morphine at the hospital. That wore off at about 11, but I've been getting by with OTCs since ,despite the doc giving me some hydrocodon.

Never had morphine before. Before administering, the nurse rattled off about 20 possible side effects. I thought this should be interesting, now I can see what all the fuss is about opioids. Other than the pain disappearing, I felt no other side effects. Guess I dont have to worry about becoming an addict.

Definitely a "Lessons Learned" moment, which I really shouldnt have needed. I am typically extremely cognizant of rotating parts in concert with hanging wires, strings, clothes, skin..... I think I was so stunned that the boat actually started, that it caught me off guard and since it was throttled way up and water was not on yet, I leaped before I looked. But good point. Let's be careful out there.

Amusing little side story. I got into house to call 911. While on one phone with them, I called my son (off duty cop and paramedic) at the same time. Since he just left the house, I knew he was close by. As soon as he answered, he said whats going on over there.? He had already heard the dispatch to our house before I called him. Pretty good service. He arrived about same time as others.

My thoughts exactly as I was scrolling thru this Bill. It may be years before I open my motor box again.

OMGosh Larry....I can think of a million things that I'd rather see than that 1st picture.

My wishes for a speedy recovery go right along with everyone else's.

So Larry...........enough of the gory chewed up leg stuff,

What's the story on the distributor/wiring that seems to work now, since the engine came roaring back to life?

I'd like to know why the boat started? By remote start, do you mean one of those switches that connects to your solenoid?

Ok, to recap, primarily for Ken's benefit, since he has been consulting me with this issue since October (but like I said, I took a few months off for another (non-boat ) project

So you may recall from my "DUI Distributor Question" I put in my old espark, which seemed to run good for about 15 minutes, then got rough. In the course of messing with it, moving wires around, using resisted coil with resistor, resisted coil without resistor, various iterations, it finally quit completely. Plus, doing a test I found on youtube, it appears I may have burned up my espark. So I went back to proven set up. A new replacement of my very original coil (Prestolite 5-69) my original resistor (forget the Ohms) and a new espark. I put it all back together double checking against standard wiring diagrams and espark instructions. First turn of the key, deader than elvis. Look again, oops, lead from coil to dist wasn't hooked back up (Hey at least the rotor was in there, isn't that the most common reason engines don't start after service?) Hooked the lead up and that's when it sprang to life. Like I said above, that test lasted only about 5 seconds and that is why jury is still out. Too soon to tell if its running smooth (i.e. no misses) and too soon to tell if this set up will fry the espark over time, but I am optimistic.

Yes Bruce, remote starter. (not the kind you were thinking of, that you need up in Maine to start your car from your bed on those -22* mornings)
