Yes. We understand what should be on there. Would love to have some of those. Or even faces and needles. My comment was trying to get them closer to the time period. 70s better than 80s for a 72 skier….that was the thought

David, pm me or "got tiques". He has a pair of the period correct ones in mint condition iirc. Not positive he wants to sell, but it's worth asking, if you want.

I guess 1978 speedometers like what you have now don't count as the 70's

I was under the impression they were a bit newer with the black button in the center. Maybe the one on our 78 tique with a silver button on the needle is a bit older. None the less, happy to have acquired these.

Didn't think you were that concerned over the black knob/button vs silver center on the needle.
I was just saying that the black face started in 78
Your 78 with silver center under the glass is right for 78 and what you have are newer, so you're under the right impression. If you really want to give it a shot, I could send you an older glass and needle

Would you post or shoot me a pic(s) of what you have. Is there somewhere I can get a white face sticker. Know that someone used to produce them. I have 5 airguides including these so I could put a sticker on the innards of one of the ones we have that are in very poor exterior condition with bad faces and use these chrome cases.

I wanna say TRB or Jmurph had the white faces you need reproduced at one time many moons ago. Tim will chime in at some point.

Here's an old Jmurph thread about the white face reproductions like Morfoot mentioned
And here's a picture of the glass and the "bare naked needle" if you want them. There's no paint at all on the needle I don't think I still have your address so just send a PM with it if you want them. I suppose the glass would work for the 78ish black face but not the whiteface earlier ones with no holes in the glass

Thanks for the offer ken. I actually have three airguides with good glass and needles like those. The chrome is in bad shape though. Think I will use the newer nice chrome and the best of the innards I have to make some “late 70’s” Airguides. I’ll check with jmurph on the decals (will read thread now) but if my memory serves people have looked for those decals in the recent past and not found them.

I am looking for one or two of the old white ones. If only one, would like to get faceplate stickers so they match.
Any assistance is appreciated! Thank you, Alan

I have not found old white ones nor the white decals for the face. I’d be interested in the decals and needles.

Update since we can post pics. Boat is in my garage currently. No pics but have underwater gear and platform on. Also repairing some white gel topdeck.
Got the airguides torn down, refreshed the needles and put old glass and needles on newer airguides. Think they came out well. Taped off and painted the stripe back on. The detailed measurements paid off. Stripped the engine and sent to engine guy. Checked out well, getting new rings and bearings. And the heads are being evaluated. Switched trailers so had to hang the boat. Installing Nautolex. Slow going bc the Nautolex 88 glue isn’t making us happy. We will see. Hoping for progress this week. |

Nice work, David. Love your barn/garage.
Did the can of Goya black beans on the workbench play a part in the AirGuide speedo restoration? JQ

Wish I could claim the barn…my buddy’s, Jesse, who owns half of the tique and skier. The Goya beans have been around the workbench for a while.

Nice, David. Happy to see progress reports on here. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. I gotta make it up to Badin a few more times this year. Not too many trips last year. Gotta change that. Hopefully you are pioneering a new trend, posting your progress. I was thinking of JoeinNY commenting a while ago that lack of photo friendliness was a big deterrent to posting, and that he didnt even own a computer any more. Saw that he was on today. Maybe he has a progress report or 2 or 3 for us.

FYI- the original floor set up would have consisted of plywood floor panels on top of the glass floor that were covered (wrapped edges) and aluminum trim.
The best pics I appear to have… |

Damn Tim, that's a sweet engine.
Interesting location for the pitot equalization tube at the rear of the engine. I also want to know a bit more about the blue GT-500 in the background. The color seems to match the engine pretty well. JQ

I’m guessing Tim’s engine was too pretty to run right and had to come back apart. all the best looking one’s always do… I wasn’t trying to mess up the orange skier thread too much - but can report no twin turbos running around my parts - some new CorrectCrafts some CorrectCraft setbacks but I’ll try to play with Imgur once the boats come out the barn

Our floor will be a slight mod from original. We really liked our design we did in the tique and copied it. Ply floor with glass over. The entire floor is smooth and will have one sheet of Nautolex. The rear floor will still pull out with T trim like original.

More work done. Got the flooring glued in. Still need to add t trim to the batt box cover and rear floor. And starting to put some parts and pieces back on. Next time we work will be the windshield and gauges. Boat will get all fresh wiring and fuse panels. Engine is at shop and we hear progress is being made. Valves and springs were shot so they are being replaced and new rings. Upholstery went to the shop last week as well.

This is the place I like to share as it is the place I learned and I like the thread style...I can't even figure out how to find a post on FB after I refresh the screen. I need a lesson.
I filled the existing rubrail holes with thickened epoxy (cabosil). Used a ziploc bag with the corner cut off to fill (like a cake icing bag). Wish us luck as we plan to put it on this weekend. It will look so much better. Any tips or tricks for bending rubrail? We have a plan but if anyone has tips from bad experiences we would love to avoid mistakes!!! Any tips as to where to put joints? I have read not to have screw hole on the bow/nose as the hole can deform so we are going to try to position a screw just off the nose. As for when the boat will be ready...depends on the engine and upholstery (those two are out of our control). Tough to go without engine. Upholstery is optional...5 gal buckets/lawnchairs and we are some motorboating SOBs. We are getting there with everything else...would think Apr/May. Fingers crossed!
