I'm replacing some of my 1-inch water hoses from the water pick-up up to the transmission cooler.

The question is whether to use wire reinforced or soft wall high pressure hose. I recognize that the OEM spec was the wire reinforced hose, but to my way of thinking, there doesn't seem to be much difference.

The wire reinforced hose is a little tougher to deal with than the soft wall high pressure hose. Is there any real difference? Most of the hose runs under the engine inside the bilge area and there is no apparent risk of crushing the soft hose. Bends are not excessive and there does not appear to be a risk of kinking the hose. What's the issue then?

Cheers,

The problem is with the hose collapsing due to the suction of the raw water pump, the wire stops that. I have found a heat gun helps when putting wire reneforced hose

Rob,
Confirming what Gary states, use wire on the suction side. It's NOT a danger of crushing but rather collapsing.
