Out of curiosity, are the ski pylons made of aluminum?

Yes but, I wouldn't make it out of any aluminum. Go for 2024 or even better, 7075. |

Thanks. I'm not looking to make one. I wanted a pylon without a ring because none of my friends can figure it out no matter how many time I show them. I bought a SN pylon but the base of correct crafts are greatly different from my own and I need to drill it to suit my needs. If it's aluminum, I can drill it but if it was steel, I knew I don't have that capability and would have to pay someone else.

The rope goes through the ring and then it's double looped around the finger. |

Pete, The floor plate on the ski pole is welded 2024 can be welded but you can't weld 7075. 7075 machines easily and polishes great. How do you like 6061 T4 ? |

The 6061 is the most common but certainly not rated very high for strength. If you have an older pylon with the welder plate at the floor, then I still would go for the 2024 due to it's better strength. Yes, the 7075 is a problem for welding but if you have a newer pylon that clamps onto the engine cradle, then I would use it. |

2 ways, depending on the length of the loop on your rope. Top = shorter loop, bottom = ideal if the loop is long enough. |

Spike's orange Skier (not your Promo).
The over the finger method is probably more completely described if you follow bottom left, top middle, bottom middle, bottom right. Rope goes through the ring, back over, then back through the center again and around the finger (then pulled tight). |

LOL on the blue balls. Interesting that I've never seen the top method before in over 15 years of boating. Guess we do learn something new everyday...

In all the years we skied on my '63 we just chucked the loop over the finger, never once did it jump off. I don't think it ever occurred to us to go through and loop over except when using it to tie up at the dock.
