oh and we put a replacement plunger type in but for some reason it would let go too quickly. but it turned over much faster than the one that had a short in its windings. but anyway. a big deep cycle will work fine. a small one no. a cranking will work no matter what. but your best off new battery and new stater.

deep cycles are meant for slow, long term discharge cycles, ie stereos and trolling motors. NOT high amp short burst, ie starting, loads. Unless you have an extremely large deep cycle you wont have sufficient CCAs to turn over a heavy(piston load) v8 and even then it would be a waste as it just doesn't have the plates(what makes the difference between a starting and deep cycle battery) to do continual starting workloads. Regular(automotive) batteries are for starting boats, deep cycles are for running the electronics...
