Contrary to most posts here regarding engines running too hot, mine seems to hover around 140 all the time. Maybe a bit higher at idle after running hard, but haven't ever seen 160. All new water lines, impeller, t-stat (143F), and temp sender over the winter. Anything I should be worried about (t-stat in backwards), or just count myself lucky?
Thanks
Ron

if your t-stat was in back wards that engine would over heat very quick. t-stats just like most everything else have limits as to what is acceptable and what is not. they are not all dead on 143. my 143 keeps the boat right around 150. when my boat is warming up it gets to just over 160 then cools to 140 and comes back up to 150. So mine is roughly 5% within target temp. Yours is roughly 2%. I wouldnt worry at all. my uncle has a heat exchanger with a 160 and it never gets above 140. Even with a new t-stat.

also. never above 160 at idle after hard running is a very good thing. our Martinique was running WOT for over 20 min straight pulling a 3 person tube with three college guys in it and at idle the temp shot strait up to a little over 200. Had to rev it a little to cool it off for the next 25 min run at WOT.

Sounds like you're in pretty good shape to me.

Have you tried grounding the temp sender wire to the block to see if the gauge pegs?

If it doesn't peg, you could have a gauge issue, but again, there is just some natural variation.
