A friend of mine was trying to get me to take another look at Romney. He sent me some information that that I was not aware of. Maybe there is a reason to take a second look at him. His beliefs may be closer to mine that I first thought.
Romney; 1. Supports a woman's right to choose ( abortion rights) 2. Supports gay rights. 3. Supports affirmative action requiring equal hiring and salary to women and minorities. 4. Designed the and implemented the original Obamacare. That is an eye opener, that and the fact that he and I share a 15% tax bracket! Maybe he is more like me than I thought! Romney on abortion, gay rights, affirmative action |

John....Welcome aboard sir!! We have a big tent over here! Come for the affirmative action, and healthcare and stay for the balanced budget, entitlement reform, and focus on controlling the national debt. I knew you would eventually come around. |

I am with Dave, Glad to see you on board, But with 15 trillion in debt, and everything else going on in the world your hot button issue for the next election is gay rights??? That must explain something, but I am not sure I want to know what.

John, Knowing how you feel about equal justice, what should happen to someone who gets into office by making false statements about their past and impugning those that try to reveal the truth?
Obamas third party past. |

Had to bring this one back. John, I was re-reading some of your posts about how good things were with the high Illinois taxes as compared to Wisconsin. This week I read that the Chicago teachers are striking. Mayor Ron Emanual, former chief of staff for and current fund raiser for Obama (can you say double dip?)is putting his foot down. He is Ok with wage negotiations but is trying to limit health care increases and put in performance pay. Hmmm sounds very similar to Scott walkers goals. And yet I had to dig very deep to find the story, and I saw no recall or occupy efforts. Out of desperation to keep the kids off the streets the mayor has called on civic groups including CHURCHES to create day camps. What happened to the separation of church and state? No God in the classroom but a classroom from God is just fine when Emanuals butt is in the wringer. The other problem is feeding all the kids on food assistance. I guess things are not that great in Chicago.

And, to add to this, I have been hearing reports over the past day or two that Wisconsin's reforms are starting to really kick in and have very positive financial results for the state of Wisconsin. As time allows, I will try to find an article and post it.

Just to be clear on the subject. I believe that many churches and parishioners do wonderful and charitable work. Without churches and their programs many homeless people would have no food or place to sleep. Churches do so many good things for their communities that I won't even try to make a list. In addition, they give many members a sense of belonging and a value set that is important to them. I have no problem with the mention of god on government buildings or our currency, and I don't want to see them removed. This applies to all religions equally. I do not like to see churches become politically active and try to control government policy, be it the Catholic Church or the Nation of Islam or anyone else. I may not believe in god, but I do believe in the goodness in the hearts of many of the people who attend church. It is very hard to participate in a discussion about religion without offending someone. It is not my intent to do so. I love this site and the people on here.
Please accept my apologies for anything that may have hurt your feelings. I was just trying to understand how others think about sensitive issues, while allowing them a glimpse of my beliefs. I would hope that the Maloon family would appreciate the diversity of those who enjoy their products, and the loving care and thousands of hours expended to restore and maintain them. These boats have provided many people with hours of pleasure, family time, and memories they will have for a lifetime. I will avoid the subject from now on because it has been the cause of grief among some of you, and I always remember that I am only a guest here. |

The more I hear about Chicago the more Ironic the situation becomes. I feel very bad for the kids by the way. We have mitt and Rahm On the same side and Barack siding with the teachers. I also heard the head of the teachers union trying to claim that this was about moving forward "for the children" (insert vomit emoticon here). The big thing i take out of this is how different a democrat is when forced to work with a balanced budget as compared to a blank check book. Maybe he can just raise the taxes again.

Nice piece. I was hoping for a bit of actual numbers for the state. One or two districts in the state, doesn't really add up to your claims of "working", let aside all other aspects the economy. That is like saying, "my car uses so little gas, I love it", while it sits in the shop for extended repair. |

Come on OOW. Don't make me do all the work. If you go to google.com, and enter the topic you want to search, it will provide you a wide variety of articles on the subject. That google thing is a great tool for that there world wide web thingy. Its amazing what it can find.
However, I know you already are very well aware that Walker's reforms are working well for Wisconson, whether you will admit it or not. I would love to have you show me an article that things are going horribly since the reforms. |

If I use an article like you posted, it would be huge. I'll post in a bit, it's 9pm, and the casino calls. There are plenty, and from good sources too. Follow your advice and Google it, National review isn't a top dog in news. Wisconsin does look good from across the border. You are in Ill anyway, and I'd be looking for greener pastures myself too. |

You got that exactly right! I would leave IL in a heartbeat to go to WI or IN where conservative ideals are saving the state. We are $83 billion in debt, and sinking rapidly. Just had our credit rating downgraded too. Thank you liberal policies!
Can't wait to see what kind of sweet heart deal the striking Chicago teachers will get from city hall. The teachers make an average of $76K/year. The average Chicago citizen makes $45K/year. We need Scott Walker to bring his reforms down here to save this state too. |

More stats
The MacIver Institute, a Wisconsin think tank, reports that of the 108 school districts that completed contracts with employees, 74 of them, with 319,000 students, have reported savings of no less than $162 million. If this is extrapolated out to all districts, it would amount to savings of nearly $448 million. The biggest area of savings have been in health insurance. The teachers union insisted that districts use the union’s own health insurance company to provide coverage. No longer forced to use a monopoly provider, districts have either switched providers or used the threat of switching to force the union health insurance company to dramatically lower premiums. Savings have averaged $730,000 in districts that have switched providers or forced competitive bidding. As a result of these dramatic savings, districts that have been able to benefit immediately from the reforms (some districts are locked into long-term contracts and cannot) have been able to avoid laying off teachers despite a significant drop in state aid and to avoid raising school taxes. Indeed, school tax bills that went out last December had an average increase of only 0.3 percent. |

More funny numbers again, I am sure Dave! Just wait until OOW finds a lefty article disputing all of our "anectdotal" data. He'll probably find something in the NY Times! I can't wait to see what he comes up with. |

I think the NYTimes is to right wing for Seth. One school system alone saves 100 teachers jobs just by getting a competitive bid for health coverage and he complains about the source. |

Well, there is this.
And this. And a link for you Vikings fans, (the punter is right on.) Walker makes Minnesota news And a video in NBC, detailing Wisconsin losing more jobs than any other state. Jobs NBC And for you teacher haters something to explain the losses of teachers. Dramtic rise in teacher retirements And for the haters of all news other than FOX, one from FOX. FOX teachers piece Here is a quote for how Walkers changes affect the women in our lives. Equal pay law repealed because money isn't important to women: One of the most insulting acts Walker and his medieval-times-thinking Republicans did was to repeal the state's Equal Pay Law, because, as state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) so helpfully put it, “Money is more important for men.” Thanks to Walker and Grothman, women who are suffering from wage abuse in the workplace now have fewer avenues to get justice. Or if an image is easier; Yeah, next is the Maciver institute OMH cited. |

So MacIver is a think tank huh?
As a front for Americans for Prosperity, hardly. WHO IS THE MACIVER INSTITUTE The MacIver Institute is a conservative, pro-corporate organization founded in 2009 to advance conservative ideas and values. Its top staff is long-time Republican campaign strategists and its board of directors includes leading Republicans, most notably Mark Block, the head of Americans for Prosperity-WI, Fred Lubar, deep-pocketed Republican donor and Jim Troupis, lawyer to leading Republicans such as Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen and ethically-challenged Supreme Court Justices Mike Gableman and Annette Ziegler. Staff: MacIver’s top staffers include both the former Chief of Staff to Scott Jensen and former GOP state senate caucus head and campaign strategist for top Republicans including Attorney General JB Van Hollen. Get real man. You say it's working, but clearly it isn't. I'm still waiting for the "reports I've been seeing". What you submitted, states teachers leaving their jobs. No flipping crap. I'd quit too. Your going to get teachers who are worth what you are paying them. Looks like Chicago is next, and they are in the streets too. I wish the protests in Wisconsin were followed by all teachers striking, like the brass filled Chicago teachers. And, at 78k you claim they are paid. Since when is that a ton of money? I couldn't live for a year on that. |

Dang man, you really are allowed to post? You should have done the right thing and finished the statement by saying the truth. Leaving out the reason totally discredits you. It's all about the failure to agree. Here is the full text courtesy of FOX. Moody You'll get the uneducated and those that really don;t care enough to read but not me. |

I received the nicest email this morning. I have posted it below. It is surprising to receive this from a former very hard core Republican.
John B, you have been an extraordinary friend in so many ways. Helped when I've needed help. Consulted when I needed consultation. Discussed with logic and reason and compansion politically polarizing views which too often end or damage otherwise good friendships. Cheryl and I arrived at a solemn epiphany last night which I felt you would understand and appreciate my sharing with you. Cheryl and I discovered that niether of us trust Romney or Ryan. Particularly Ryan with his mission to pass all the burden of medicare from the wealthy business owners and corporations to working people with their desire to implement "vouchers" which would soon be worth ten cents on each medical dollar. Also, as we and most other workers who have contributed to social security thier ideas of reforming social security means deminishing and postponing these earned benefits which well result in more years of work and lower wages for all to the advantage of wealthy owners and corporations. We're both pretty fed up with the Republican scare tactics regarding all other issues. It looks like we are going to place our trust in Obama, and hope to God that its the best choice even if its the lesser of two evils (all politicians). John R |
