Need help with Tachometer wiring 2002 SN GT40 I sent the Tachometer to Faria for a repair. When I disconnected it the wiring seemed simple, so I didn't make any notes or take a picture. And I think I have it figured out.... but would like to see if you guys concur. The gauge has terminals for Batt, Gnd, and Sig Purple wire is key on power - goes to batt Black wires are ground and go to GND There is a black wire and a grey wire from the perfect pass box. On the perfect pass box they are labled RPM sensor. I assume that the black wire was on the gnd terminal with the other ground wires (I would have noted something different when I removed it) So I'm assuming that the grey wire from Perfect Pass would go to the Sig terminal. I have no other disconnected wires. Is the PP sending an rpm signal to the Tach or is the tach sending a signal to PP? Thanks for the help |

From Perfect Pass: (1) Standard Installation (Older boats and boats with traditional Analogue gauges with Posts on back): The Gray wire with ring terminal can be easily attached to the “SEND” post on back of tachometer. This Gray wires picks up the raw engine rpm from this post. The Black wire ring terminal can be attached to any suitable ground, including the ground post on the tachometer. (If there is not a post, connect to the solid gray wire coming from the tachometer). (5) 2000 – 2002 Nautiques: Same as standard #1 above, except the rpm signal can be picked from the Gray wire coming from the back of the tachometer. Hope this helps. You mention........ Purple to Batt Black to Ground But I see no mention of the Gray wire coming from the ignition coil going to the Sig terminal on the tach Maybe you just forgot to mention that wire So your tach should have those 3 wires hooked to it and then the Gray PP wire hooks to the Sig terminal so you'll have 2 gray wires hooked to the Sig terminal and the PP ground wire hooked to the ground terminal on the tach The wire from the coil gives the speed signal to the tach and PP just uses that same signal to feed it's own tach.

Let me re-phrase what you're saying: The Tach alone needs 3 wires to the 3 terminals. I should have a grey wire from the engine to the Sig terminal. Then the PP has a wire that also connects to the Sig terminal. Apparently, I have overlooked the Sig wire from the engine. This makes sense. THanks for the help |

Good rephrasing job  Without that gray wire, the tach won't work and neither will PP.
