Okay River Ruckusers here's the latest and greatest info. I talked to Terry Fiest today and told him we were coming down "By Sea" and we had a rather big group of CC's and asked if they'd be able to accomodate us. Yep, we sure do so you guys come on down and we'll give you the same deal as years past. $5 a person to get in instead of $10. Just let me know how many are coming ahead of time and we'll get wristbands for you. They'll have 70 boats in the water this year as some of the docks have been replaced but not all. They're glad we're coming.
So here's the Cabin and shirt size list that I HAVE SO FAR.... shirt design is still being worked on so it may be a surprise to all of us. If you wanna shirt then you'd better speak up. Action Screen needs #'s the first week of March to run them so get moving. I have a special request for those of you attending this years River Ruckus. Most of you who are my FB friends know that I'm involved with Operation Care Package that the Mechanics here at Delta send every week. The items in the boxes are provided by donations of those who work here OR through money given to the project or by Grits fundraisers. The need for money that other charitable organizations that the TOC is involved with has closed the funds for Operation Care Package for now. The money raised was spent on groceries for the troops.
I'd like to ask all of you to help me send stuff to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and even on a boat somewhere by bringing something that we can pack in a care package. Candy, nuts, hot sauce, crackers, jerky, anything from home that the service won't/can't provide pretty much anything that isn't perishable or chocolate.. I know that the troops would appreciate it so very much and you won't have to foot the bill for sending a care package abroad. The VP of Technical Operations has been paying the Postage Bill for it. Last I heard, it was around $15k for 2018. If you can that would awesome and I know the Coordinator of this weekly operation would be appreciative. I'll even be sure that River Ruckus Coozies go with the packages from the stuff y'all donate. Thanks in advance for your help in this effort for them....... See ya on the River! |

BigWave Dave....glad to see y'all making the trip back to the Ruckus and bringing a newby with ya Let me know if you're gonna want shirts and if so then what size. Cost and the design is still yet to be determined but will need to know quantity of each size we need to order.
We're about a month away from the first gathering of CCFans so I hope y'all are ready. I know that I am. Still haven't heard from a couple of you as to whether or not you want a shirt and what size. Also how many of you are planning on going to the Sunnyland Boat Show on Friday. I need to give them a Headcount and how many boats are coming. The Amphicars are scheduled to be there that weekend too so I'm sure we'll see them in the Dora Canal on our trip. If anyone has any questions about anything and please feel free to give me holla. My Number is Seven Seven 0 Three 1 Six Six 9 Six 3. |

FYI if someone has a good pasta salad go ahead and bring it. Richard and Juli listed above are not bringing pasta salad, but broccoli salad. If that does not sound good to you, it actually is because it has bacon as a key ingredient.
I am very ready to hitch up and hit the road. Really looking forward to this gathering. Richard |

Okay Gang we're a month away from Kicking off the Ski Season with The River Ruckus... Just a heads up for our new attendees. There is NOT much of a grocery store in Astor so stop before you get there if you need to stock up on anything if you don't bring it. There is a big chain grocery store in Ocala at 441 & 326 if you need/forgot something. Also if you drink the hard stuff you better bring it with you as there ain't a liquor store around anywhere. I do believe you can get ice at the campground but there are several gas stations close by... Here's the updated list:

Any thoughts on trying to head up and doing a "Salt Springs Run" on Thursday afternoon if Lake George Conditions will allow? In the past we've rafted up at Lungren Island south of Astor on the St. Johns to kick off the long weekend but as I was updating my Navionics app on the phone, I zoomed in on Lake George to check the various charted water depths. Salt Springs is a little further up from the Silver Glen and would be a new adventure for all or most of us. Looks to be at least 3ft or more all the way into the head springs. Have any of you local guys been there by boat? Google Satellite images shows boats in the channel under way so It's probably doable. What'cha y'all think?

You’ll be fine. The only area of concern is the sandbar in the lake as you approach. In the 80’s inboards had to be walked across the bar. But that bar must’ve been reshaped over the years. Once in the run it’s smooth sailing with 3/4 of it safe speed. If you look on the map the run is kinda of in a mamassi e cove which usually shelters the bigger water that you encounter on south end and at the Glenn.

Okay Great. Thanks Todd. Miss Scarlett will be making the trip and she does have a depth finder installed so it shouldn't be a problem. The ONLY problem I foresee is how windy it is. In the 10 years we've done this gathering the water was glass ONCE. 80% of the time it's very choppy. Since Salt Springs is at the top of the lake it would make a long ride three times longer if the water is the least bit choppy. Definitely will be a call it when we get to the gateway.

If its windy you guys should ride down to Blue Springs or Hoonton island. I always thought Salt Springs was a long rough ride in any boat. Water is still high so depth should be no problemo anywhere. Its been pretty breezy lately.

In Florida we have 3 seasons: Summer for 47 weeks, a week of winter and March is our windy season. Our windy season started 2 weeks early this year so there’s hope it’ll finish up early. FWIW there is a good ramp (actually 2) in the spring head. I’ve had to use it with my Skiff when coming up from Astor wasn’t do-able. But hard to justify trailering when you’re already on the water.

Last weekend I drove up to UF on my motorcycle. I stopped at Silver Glen (Our usual stop) and then travelled on to Salt Springs. It is a long ride by road. I actually thought how long of a ride it would be by boat, and then add in the Lake George wind chop. My opinion would be not worth it. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Jerry, were you going jerry-actric speed? Additional :15 by boat maybe. If y’all never been, I suggest going at some point. Less crowded and that stuff you might have in those little red cups is allowed in salt springs.

Since it has been a long time since I spent any time on this site, I thought I should check in. I have been working on the '61 Ski Nautique in hopes of getting it ready for the event. Some of you might know that the engine failed on me at the 2017 Masters. I nursed it through the opening ceremony, but it has not run since. More on that later. My plans are as follows: I will probably go directly to the launch site for the Oklawaha river run to Lake Dora for the boat show. Phyllis will be going with me, as she lives in that direction. We have reserved the Otter cabin for Friday and Saturday nights. The accommodations are a loft upstairs with a double bed and a bunk downstairs consisting of the futon and a single bed. If someone (or two) would like to share the rent, we can work that out. Please contact me. Some of you have my email address and/or phone number, or you can Message me through this site. Thanks, and we'll see you there! |
