Description:
1980 Correct Craft Ski Nautique, I purchased the boat from Texas coast. I brought the boat to a fiberglass company located in Baton Rouge to recieve a hull fiberglass structural inspection. The report concluded that there were no delaminations, no seperations, nor any problems structurally with the hull. He stated that all imperfections in existing glass and gel coat were superficial. The plan for this build was to keep the existing finish on hull and interior seat vinyl for a vintage patina look. Unfortunately there was some yellowing in the gel coat, so i decided to paint over the gel coat for aesthetic reasons and leave the existing ski nautique graphics with segments of the graphic being touched up. I replaced stringers and entire floor with a Coosa composite which retains less than 1 Percent of water, it will never rot. The previous owner installed a rebuilt short block and the engine with 450 hours on the engine, very good running engine. This boat has been tested and meets required towing specifications.
THE GOOD:
- I replaced almost everything on boat due to rough original condition when i purchased it.
BOAT:
The rub rail was gone through and secured with stainless fasteners, i decided to kept existing rub rail to tie in vintage look, replaced strut bearings, replaced bow and stern light, New Prop shaft collar and flange hub, replaced prop, replaced the bow hook support and stern hook support, replaced the rotary steering system and new steering wheel, New Morse throttle control, all cleats were replaced, Closed cell flotation foam replaced, new bilge pump, ski pylon support was reglassed, new exhaust fans, new seat and engine cover hinges were replaced, fuel filter, replaced water intake hose, replaced stuffing box and packing. Since the boat has been restored, ive put less than 100 hours on it.
TRAILER:
I replaced axle, rims, tires, leaf springs, leaf spring hardware, new fold away trailer hitch, all new wiring, lights.
ELECTRICAL:
All wiring was replaced, it is labeled wire not color coded wire, New Battery with upsized cables due to relocation of battery.
- ENGINE:
Previous owner replaced short block with a low hour block, compression readings are very good and the engine runs great. Engine has 420 hours on it.
- ENGINE REPLACED COMPONETS: Alternator, HEI distributor, plugs, wires, impeller.
- BOAT ENGINE RELATED REPLACED PARTS: Intake water filter, flex exhaust, new fuel tank sending unit, Morse throttle control, Packing collar, strut bearings and prop shaft flange hub.
BORG WARNER TRANSMISSION:
New seal kit.
- INTERIOR:
The seats and engine cover was left to the exisiting vinyl for a vintage look, i replaced carpet, painted topside and helm.
GAUGES:
The speedometer gauges were pitot style, the pitots were removed and patched. I kept original dual gauges and modified the housing on one to accept a gps speedometer, all other gauges were replaced but a amp meter was put in replace of the stock hour hour meter but i put one thats located under dash is located under helm.
RADIO:
Pyle 400 watt bluetooth amplifier with 2 Sony 6.5" speakers in rear.
THE BAD:
- Bottom of boat paint wore off due to me not seeing the carpet damage on boat slides upon trailering so the runners were topped with a low friction material and the bottom of boat paint was rolled on with foam roller to fix the paint damage, its cosmetic.
- The trailer was homemade by previous owner and sits higher and runners were slightly off center. This doesnt affect trailering the boat and is a very sound structural trailer. I driven over 500 miles on this trailer.
- Missing ski nautique dash emblem and ski pylon eye ring. They both can be added once purchased. My intentions wereto purchase and put them on but never could find them online.
