is there an easy way to remove the strut bearing?? 84 barefoot i believe it's one large seal instead of two smaller seals!! ------------- Mark 84bare12" |

If you mean the cutlass bearing(brass tube w/rubber inset), it has 2 set screws. You may be able to tap it out with something of the same size, but it's not steel so be careful. The set screws can be stripped easily as well. Maybe some penetrating oil overnight? Are you asking about the strut bearing? I dont know of a strut seal.

Mark, No such thing as a strut seal! If you are thinking of the cutlass bearing, Chris (79) is correct that the easy way to remove it from the strut is to cut it out. Take the hacksaw blade out of it's frame and put it through the inside of the bearing. Put the blade back on the frame and start sawing! Try not to cut into the strut. When you get the brass shell of the bearing almost cut through, you can use a chisel and hammer to curl the bearing inwards. It will fall out.
Did someone tell you that this "seal" is two pieces? Did you get the shaft out? Pete, sometimes nowadays you install 2 2" strut bearings, one at each end, so he may think there is two, which may be ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |

It's been about 10 years since I bought the last cutlass bearing but I've always gone to the power transmission (gears, sprockets, sheaves, bearings, etc,)distributor that I use. They are a standard component and without the word "marine" attached to them qiute inexpensive.
