ok i bought the nautique....i know it needs a water pump...the one that hangs off the right side of the engine if you are facing it. i did some re-search on here and i am confused...if that is the water pump that what is the pump looking piece on the front of the motor? some other type of pump...what do each of these do? i have a pump on my little 9.9 that looks similar with the rubber fingers i have replaced it but it handles all the cooling..the dual pump thing confuses me...forgive though i am a car mechanic...thanks for the help...you guys have been great. also where in the heck can i find some parts? i want to see a diagram...there are some hoses i need as well. old timers call these microfishe

Burd, Welcome to the world of the marine engine. The water pump on the front of the engine that is just like a automotive is the "circulating" pump. Just like it's counterpart, it handles the flow of water through the engine but since it is not a pump designed for higher suction heads it needs help. The rubber impeller pump is the "raw water" pump that does that. With the positive sution of the rubber impellers, it can suck the lake water from a lower level than the engine. However, because it is rubber, it is a maintenence item. To be on the safe side a lot change the impeller every year.

Congrats on getting the boat.
