one of my tracking fins is severely bent due to the boat sitting on the bottom of the river and the tide going out causing the fin to be wedged between two rocks. it dosent really affect the performance of the boat but it is bent sideways and i would like to know,
if i took the fin off of the boat, i think there are 4 bolts or screws, would my boat leak water. and if so does anybody have a fin they would be willing to sell? thanks, Mike |

I think theyre only screws- so if you took them out and didnt fill the holes, then your boat would leak.
You probably wont have much luck finding a used one, but theyre only $70-80 each from Correct Craft. ------------- |

I have a couple of new fins that I bought off e-bay some time ago. The seller said they were new and had never been installed. They look real good to me. I'm not sure what shape yours are but the ones I have are shaped like a sharks fin and not squared off like some of the newer ones were. If yours are the same then I will sell one to you for $50 plus shipping or I will sell you both of them for $90 plus shipping. Please let me know. Kevin |

yea ive been looking at other posts and it seems as if they are only screws, so when i take them out i just have to fill the hole with silicone and put the screw back in.

| Look at your boat. Some older boats had them through bolted. Newer bots are screwed on. |

be carefull not sure which year they quit doing it but mine are threw bolted and not screwed in. Depending on how bad the fin is bent most prop shops can fix/straighten them. Had one repaired many years ago and it turned out fine.

just climb in the boat and look under the deck for the nuts if your's are thru bolted, use a small mirror if needed. On my 87 SN they are only screwed from the bottom. They are all removed right now. When I wet sanded the bilge water ran out of the holes from fin closest to the stern. 88, If you do not replace the fin, please do not use silicone to "seal" the holes. It will not work. Silicone has poor adhesive qualities and I've said it in other posts that I really hate the stuff. To plug the holes, I would use a epoxy patching compound. thanks for all the advice. the fin is screwed in and im gonna take it off, get it repaired or replaced and reattach it with epoxy and the screws takin all the advice you guys have given me.

88, Use 3M 5200 FAST cure to put it back on. You can get it in small tubes from marine supplys. don't reattach it with epoxy you'll never get it off again with out damaging the hull removing it. Just use 5200 and you'll be fine.

word, 5200 is your best friend when screwing into your hull, yeah its a sonofabitch to get it off but I think thats the point here. Be careful with your clothes though it doesn't come out.

| today i got under the boat lift and took off the back two fins. it wasnt hard at all. it was screwed in and they came out with a hand screwdriver. the fins then just needed to be "persuaded" to detatch from the boat with the back of the screwdriver. im planning to take to them to a local prop shop and have them straightened, it seems easier that getting new ones and paying shipping and the cost of the fin. |

| the rudder, shaft, and prop are fine. the place where i wakeboard has a beach across from the rails so you can park up and watch and there are some rocks and i assume my fins were caught in them when the tide went out. me and my 2 other friends then had to lift up the front of my boat to get the fins unstuck. it was extremely low tide that day aswell and normally you do not ever notice the rocks. |
