I have a '98 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with 3.4 V6. It pulls my '93 Sport, but I think my next truck will have a V8. it's rated at pulling 5,000 lbs. and I figure I'm probably at 4300. it pulls it but I don't think I will head to the hills of West Virginia. At least not until I install a transmission cooler... (on my list of things to do before spring.)

After owning 3/4 ton GMC, 1/2 ton Ford, I was afraid to get anything smaller but I have really enjoyed my "Taco". by far the best built truck I have ever owned.

Former rig was a 2005 F-350 4X4 short bed with 6.0L powerstroke. Now I either use my 79 F-250 4X4 wtih a built 460 or 2006 F-150 4X4 extended cab with 5.4L. Had to get rid of the 05 F-350 for now was to big for the wife to drive everyday to work. But when the lease runs out I am thinking about the twin turbo diesel that ford brought out for 08.

Once again my offer stills stands on the X-plan for anyone wanting to buy a new ford product. It could be a mercury or linclon also.

Early, former and current tow rig is still this 98 Exploder 5.0, which has yet to explode. It's pulled CCs thru at least 16 states. Notice the Nautique window sticker and plate frame, and of course the mileage which continues to climb. The bottom pict is Mrs ReidP's Aviator coming across the 7 Mile bridge in the FLA keys towing the little Shamrock just a few weeks ago. Tows a little better than the Explorer, but the 32valves love the 93 octane. I'll get a real truck one day. Might have to take 87BFN up on his X-offer, but for now, Backfoot has my wish-list truck also.

One of these days I will figure out how to post pictures. Our normal tow rig is a 2002 F-250 superduty diesel. Yanks that SN like it is nothin'. We also have a 1990 Ford 1/2 and Chevy 1/2 which are our back-up machines. Never want to be stranded not being able to go to the lake! We just bought a 2006 Magnum with a Hemi. It is black so it will look cool with the boat. Probably won't pull with the car, but it would be cool. Maybe I will get some pictures posted.

My 79 Jimmy and 88 SN... I still have the Jimmy, but sold the boat last June

This is the new tow rig with my 95 SN.

I really like the Tahoe, and my wife refused to ride in the Jimmy anymore on trips to the lake after 15years of "redneck 4x4" fun.

Todicus: Man you really moved up in the world. Love white vehicles. You should'a got a ford tho.

quinner: I towed with 3 Broncos (78,87,94) before switching to F-150's. On my third one there as well, but always liked the Broncos better. Leftover from another thread: really liked the "girls and big deck" comment, but in Ohio we always said it a little different. Of course we were the land of "tubbies and vespas" there.

Randy, I'm learning so much from and about our members here. I just heard the FUPA phrase a couple of months ago and thought the kids HERE just made it up. The "Shocker" and "Spocker" hand signals still have me grinning and shaking my head in that they're nationwide. If anyone needs to update their vocabulary so they can speak intelligently or rather on the level with many of our younger or more-hip members, go to the "Urban Dictionary" web site which can provide definitions for any slang you can imagine.

Oh, and todicus, do they they make that new Tahoe in a men's version as well? Just kidding, as they are a sweet new ride with the cleanest styling in years. Just missing a big blue oval as jbear noted.

reidp,

You totally busted me......... I was waiting for someone to comment on that; notice the flower print on the car seat covers . It's my wifes daily driver, makeup kits in the console and hair bands on all the knobs; it's very embarrasing. That's why I still drive the 79 Jimmy, or as I call it the "war wagon". The only time I drive the tahoe is on family outings or to tow the boat when my wife is with me, since she won't drive in my Jimmy anymore. She wanted a new car; I convinced her to get something with 4 wheel drive and capable of towing the boat. Done deal !!

Married life... i tell you, it's not what I expected.

Anybody towing with an 2000-2006 Tundra? My parents used to pull the 88 with a 4.0l Jeep Cherokee (till it was totaled), then a 2000 Chevy Mini Van. Both got the job done, but I like towing with my 04 Tundra. Should get some good mileage in this summer.

John,

I hope that someday, you can get another pull behind the '86 you know all so well. I would love to hear more stories about it. With the way it was taken care of and what I've done to it, it's just like new! The bottom of the hull is brand new now.

This isn't the current tow rig for the BFN this was two trucks ago. This truck was a 2004 F-350 4X4 extended cab shortbed diesel. The was taken at Ludington State Park. The west side of michigan right along Lake Michigan.

Ironic that this topic has reappeared. I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche. It pulls my 85BFN very well.
Today, while my brother was driving it, delivering a Christmas basket to one of our retired employees, some little 17 year old kid who has never driven on ice covered roads came around a corner too fast and smashed into the side of it. My brother had taken my truck because his SRT 300 sucks on icy roads. Rick saw the kid coming, brakes locked up, but he had nowhere to go. Wrong place at the wrong time.
The good thing is nobody was hurt. The bad thing is, I'm driving an F350 dump truck with a snow plow.

Jeez Tull, that sucks. The new Avalanches are really nice looking too.

Tull,
Use it to your advantage make some extra money with the plow to pay for gas in the BFN this summer. I am looking at a new truck right now, just waiting on the dealer.

Bummer Tull.

I use a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. Very happy with it so far. It replaced a 1998 Dodge Durango with the 5.9 in it. Went through 3 trannies and 1 limited slip diff before 60K - AND I DIDN'T EVEN TOW ANYTHING AT THE TIME!

We should all get together. I'm sure Gary would love give her another spin. The boat is just like new now. New motor, new graphics all buffed up and waxed up. Beautiful looking boat, huh? You have an open invitation to ski behind it anytime, John.

Thats a picture right after i picked up the poor 2001 so it looks like crap. Thats my 99 R/T dakota still going strong with 145k pulls like a horse. Shees a little squatted in that pic because of the boat and all the luggage for a week and a half spring break.

I picked up a little 91 cherokee thats getting painted flat black for 275 bucks and Im going to leave it up at the cabbin to pull the boat to the ramp and to get fuel.

BTW kevin do you have some kind of helper springs on your lowered truck to keep it level? Id like to lower the dak but im not sure about the towing because I use it for a truck alot.

Ill throw up a better picture in the spring when the boat and the truck are both shiny.

Bruce,

I don't have any helper springs on my truck and it does have a tendency to bottom out on large bumps and dips in the road at highway speeds. It rides level with the boat in tow. I have lowered the truck 3" in the front and 5" in the back. It is rare that I have the boat behind the truck since it stays in the boat lift almost almost all of the time. When I do take it out the boat launch is only 1 mile away.
