Any pointer for steering cable replacement. I changed the cable on my 67 and assume it’s similar. Wasn’t sure if there was a preference on which direction to go with new cable. Assume it’s a two man job ?
Thanks,
Brian

Assuming it's the rotary style cable , after it's out of the helm, tape a long piece of rope to it in the front and pull it out from the rear so that the rope follows it as you pull.

Then when the cable is out, you cut or untape the rope and tape it to the front of the new cable, feeding it in from the rear while pulling the rope from the front and you'll get the new cable snaked up to the front.

The hard part may be making sure the cable is free to move by cutting any tie wraps that might be holding it to things like the wiring harness

One person can do it with the rope, but it's easier with two people.

Thanks Keno the rope idea would have worked well. We tried both ways pulling got stuck then cut the rudder end offhand pulled it through with no problem. I will know better for next time or more likely forget and can reference this post. Thanks again fo ret response.

Phil, Slow progress until lately. New exhaust gaskets, plugs, steering cable, greased rudder, repacked rudder shaft, replaced damaged mufflers with stereo straight pipes, installed charged battery, cranked it less than a minute and she fired up and seems to run pretty good so far. Today fresh oil and filter, button everything back up, New registration numbers and hopefully install new prop. Maybe get to dunk it in the water but sense I may run short of time.
