the crispy 1999 Air Nautique that hadn't been in the water since it was in a garage fire in 2003 went back in the water for the first time yesterday. Still work to-do.. but step by step progress is being made!

Wow, who would a thunk!!

How is it running?? Was the hour meter readable after the fact, I really don't recall??
May have mentioned this before, IIRC the boat had around 450 hrs for reference moving forward.

Wow, Chris—this is absolutely amazing to see it back to life!

Engine runs good and thanks for the heads up on the hours estimate. The fuel system was a challenge because it sat so long but new fuel pumps and filters and injectors did the trick. Still have some interior parts to install and the gauges are not all in order yet, but overall it is seaworthy and will be a nice boat. What I would really like to find is a correct instrument pod. The one I am using came from a 96 Nautique.... anyway, I will keep plugging away but I think by the end of this season should have it in very useable shape. I bought a beautiful 97 SNOB recently with 220 hours so that has distracted me a bit and taken away some of the urgency in the project 😎

Wish I lived closer. I'd trade you some labor for currency in the Mooney. Been a LONG time since my SE Mooney days ;-) Sure miss it.

First, Did the boat burn the garage or did the garage burn the boat ?
Second, Why rebuild ? Take the check and get another.
EDIT: Never mind with the second question just read the diary

just sold my Old C Model Mooney I had for 35 years a few months ago because I got the 201 (tail shown in the background) restored and back in the air. Restored an airplane and a boat in the same year! Happy to get you back in the air anytime you might be in the area! And Love the idea of labor for flight time... but all joking aside, the guy that bought my C is an instructor and would be happy to get you current!!

Quinner - Forgot to answer the question about the hour meter.. it was not with the project when I got it a couple of years ago, and I took your advice and did not tear the engine down. Good decision, I loaded up all the cylinders with Marvels Mystery Oil, WD 40 and some straight weight aviation mineral oil and let is sit for a few weeks... it was fine just needed some attention to the systems.

Flew a 201 from Tampa to Salt Lake City once. Was my ex Father in Law. Landed at the Grand Canyon to fuel. It was an amazing trip. The Nautique is beautiful, you did a great job!

That is an impressive restoration! I would not have imagined that hull could be saved, just shows what some vision and skill can do.

I'm guessing you won't be asking if you can store it for the winter in Chris's garage?
