Can a mechanical fuel pump be rebuilt? I purchased a new one since I am rebuilding the entire engine. The new just seems cheap compared to the original. What are your thoughts, can I rebuild the old one or just put a new one on it?

Rarely do they go bad. I’d reuse the old one and keep new one as a spare. Is new one from PCM?

Here are a couple of threads with some info in the links. You don't mention whether your old one is an AC or Carter, but you can figure that out by reading the links if you're not sure what it is.

I found a picture that's not real clear in your 1977 PCM 302 thread ( the one with lots of "discussion about shades of blue and green} that shows your fuel pump.

It looks like a dual diaphragm AC.

If you were so inclined to rebuild it, you can't find parts but one of Gary's links is to Then and Now Automotive and they'll rebuild it for you.

The new one came from Discount inboard, it didn’t come in a box so I am not sure who makes it.

Thanks Ken, I believe it is an AC double diaphragm. I may see about getting it rebuilt then keeping the new one I purchased as a spare.

I sent my fuel pump out to Then and Now Automotove in MA. I got it back in less than a week, completely rebuilt with new components and the outside media blasted, ready for paint. They were very easy to do business with.

Thanks for all of the help on this, it’s nice to be able to keep the original AC pump.
