I just picked up a 1988 Martinique, mostly because it has a very low-hour 454 in it. I was planning to put the 454 in my single-engine Fish Nautique, but someone bought that Fish Nautique before I had a chance to even pick up the Martinique.

So now I have a Martinique with a 454, and I want to get the 454 running before I try to sell the entire package.

The engine cranks fine, and compression is good. Gas is fresh. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and points all appear new. The coil had a terminal broken off, so I was really hoping that was the only issue. I tried a spare coil today, but I'm still not getting any spark.

I may try a brand new coil tomorrow. Anyone have any other thoughts? The engine doesn't have any sign of firing at all.

Are you getting power to the coil? Are the points providing a clean coil ground when closed? Get the VOM out!!

Yeah, haven't taken any measurements yet. I didn't have it with me today.

Hope it is something easy!

Clean the point contact faces and see what happens.

Now that would be hilarious since he just towed it from the Midwest back to NC.

Got it running today! Tried another spare coil, and played around with the points some. Looking good now!

I have a belt set and an impeller coming from Townsend, and then I am going to drop it in the water and see how it does.
