Hello All, I have a quick question and just wanted to get some of your valuable insight, so I don't screw up what I am doing. I am getting ready to do a tune up on my boat (MY 2001 SN GT-40). I have marked the firing order and the cylinder numbers, so I know the correct way to hook my new plugs wires up. However, I am also replacing the distributor cap and rotor. Can I just drop the new cap and rotor on? Or does it need to be set for timing or put on in a specific manner? I am sorry I am sure that this is a basic thing for most of you, but I have never replaced a cap and rotor before and just wanted to make sure that I don't screw it up. I appreciate all of your help in advance, thank you! |

Leave all wires connected pull off old cap replace rotor Take new cap Move each wire from old cap to new cap, one at a time, to corresponding terminal Install new cap. Same with replacing the wires. Dont pull them all off at once. Take one off,replace it. I think you meant to say "distributor cap" originally but I'd hate for you to get into this and not have all of the info you need. So just to clarify, you are only replacing the distributor cap and rotor, correct? If so, the reply above is fantastic. If you're replacing the whole distributor it gets a little more complicated. |
