Just noticed my old Paragon in the diaries section for sale.

Sure hope the next Caretaker does as great a job as Chuck did and the boat stays in CCFan family.

For those that do not know the Paragon's, they were introduced in 1993, basically a Ski Nautique all accented out in Mahogany and with a special interior and Teak flooring. They made 11 (to the best of my knowledge), 10 were done in the Hunter Green (looks more Christmas green in person IMO) and 1 was specialy built by Ken Meloon in Wineberry, which was the one I used to own and sold to Chuck and is once again for sale.

Can certainly vouch for this boat being extremely well cared for, only had 300hrs in 2004 when I sold it.

Neat ass boat, beautiful doesn't do it justice, one of a kind.... granted there's no comparables but $60k is a bit high.

I hate to say it, but other than being a part of CC history (and that purpose alone) I'm not really feelin' it on this model.

I'm not really feelin' the 60k price tag!

Are the stringers made of gold?

When you owned this boat, was it your only boat? Either way, how did you use it? Was it difficult trying to enjoy it for what it was without being overly concerned about abusing the finishes? It would seemingly be way impractical in that respect. Beautiful boat tho. Agree with the others that somebody is REALLY going to want a Paragon to pay that kind of price for it.

I'm sure its buried in a thread from 8 years ago but Chris how many hours were on it when you bought it, how did you find/get it? I'm sure you told me once but I've forgotten

Just buy it. It will look great back in the familiar waters of deep lake. Plus then I can take it for a loop or 10

I saw a green one at Sierra Boat at Lake Tahoe about 8 years ago. it was listed as a used boat although appeared as new. The asking price was $90,000. It was the most beautiful ski boat I have ever seen.

Mmmm, let me finish my Cheerios's Joel just peed all over, lol

To answer some of your questions, my life long friend Brownie's family bought the boat new from Ken Meloon, had a few hours but not many, I purchased from them and then later sold to Chuck. Brownie and me were the primary users of that boat from day 1, had about 200hrs when I bought it and 300 when I sold it, majority of those hours were skiing, footing, etc. Brand new the boat was a bit less then it's current ask, so yes, at 30 some years old we did laugh that we were skiing behind a 60k ski boat, no doubt.

It was my only boat when I owned it and I felt bad using it as a daily ski boat, hence the reason I sold it and also why Chuck now has it for sale as he is putting more and more hours on it as well, believe it is at around 750 now. Never really worried about using it as a ski boat in terms of concern about damage, the floors were all teak throughout so actually were more durable then carpet, Vinyl was the same as all the other boats and no matter what my boat was constructed of I would not tie off or allow it to bang of piers or whatnot, it always was kept on a lift under canopy and stored indoors in the off season. It was not a trailer queen nor was it run hard and put away wet. One thing for sure, whenever we were out using it that boat got a ton of attention, there was never a time someone wasn't commenting about it.

Putting a value on that boat is tough, it is truly a 1 of a kind produced by a highly respected company who has been building boats for 92 years. You have the best of both worlds, a Woody boat that is not going to rot away over time and a truly capable ski boat. Bottom line is it is worth what someone is willing to pay, Bob wrote a check for close to today's ask 24 years ago so who knows, maybe there are some more Bob's out there ready to buy now. If I owned that boat today and listed it for sale I would be asking the same amount, why not test the waters :).

It's a really cool boat and It's great someone else soon will be able to enjoy it as we certainly did.

JD, I believe that one was sold and ended up in Michigan, someone put a GT-40 in that one and it had almost no hours on it, saw it at a CC dealer near Paw Paw lake, I was a little surprised at the color of the Green, it struck me more as a Christmas Green then a Hunter Green as it appeared in the brochures. Beautiful boat though, that was for sure.

The boat looks mint. So Ken Meloon actually built this one?

Bruce it wasn't until the Lake George Reunion when the Crush was unveiled that I learned of Ken's influence on this particular Paragon, as you know he was there and as we were talking he filled me in on how this boat was his project. He was bummed when it was sold as I think he really wanted to keep it himself. He had it done in the wineberry color and then there are quite a few unique touches only this boat has, the gold trim, updated stereo, quite a bit of detailing, chrome, faux braided hoses and so forth on the motor, may have been some other stuff as well.

This boat is gorgeous. If I had the cash flow, I wouldn't hesitate; Quinner is right in my books... This lady deserves a pampered life with gentle touches, and the occasional sunset ski session.

I'm tempted to jump on a flight just to have the opportunity to meet her. More picture please! Possibly a video for us that will never have the luck of meeting a Paragon!?

I went looking for a photo of Quinner's engine, because I thought that needed to be added to this thread

and found it in http://correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=34103&KW=paragon&PN=2&title=paragon-replica" rel="nofollow - this thread which I had forgotten about but thought was a pretty interesting project. Kudos to the OP in the old thread.

I remember my first and only Paragon sighting. 1993 boat show in Syracuse NY.

I think the price is OK. I'd argue that boat is the only truly one-off boat from the composite stringer era that is worth that kind of money, and I see no reason for the value to drop as time goes forward (assuming it's kept in this kind of condition, of course). The green boats only make this one more valuable, the one and only.

I know our 50-plus year old boats have little value as collectables, but then again they aren't unique and, I can say this since I own one, aren't capable enough for modern watersports. This boat is different, I think.

Interesting boat for sure and a must have for the very wealthy guy that loves that generation of Ski Nautique. Does the bottom of the hull have bottom paint?

As I recall, The one I saw was heading to Michigan the following week if it did not sale in Tahoe. I remember the floor being different than the picture above. I remember teak slats about 1 in. x 1 in. all screwed together leaving small gaps between each board. Yes, I agree your description of the color green to be accurate.

Thanks for the pic and link Larry, notice the pro tech is gone, it went out pretty early on that one, right around 10 years and 200hrs.

I feel strongly that there is a person who would pay that amount for that boat. If my career were 10 years further along than it is currently, I would probably be your buyer.

I remember seeing a green one on the sales floor of Sierra Boat in the mid 90's.

I guess it could have been the late 90s,. but I am thinking about 17-18 years ago now that I think about it. That is when I purchased my Century. I had not discovered Sierra Boat until I had my Century. And yes, the Paragon was in the center of their show room. It fit in perfect between the wooden classics and the new Chris Crafts. Personally I thought the green color accented by the wood looks nicer than the red and wood accents. On the red boat, the wood red color are two close together.

My memory sucks but it may have been late 90's. I spent a lot of time at Tahoe in the 70's and 80's but only made a few trips in the 90's..   I think the last one was around '99. My friends family collects classic boats and most of them are stored at Sierra Boat so we would go there often. The non-classic (the kid boat) that we were allowed to use in the 70's was a Century Resorter and sometimes if the parents weren't around we would take out his dad's brand new Donzi 21' that he kept on a buoy. I doubt there was much of a market for the Paragon on that lake so it probably sat in the showroom for quite awhile.
