Well, finally got my boat home, and pulled all the old decals off the sides, and started in on the wetsanding, polishing process. Here's a few pics. I'd say this old, weathered '93 is cleaning up damn nice!

This one is a BEFORE Pic:

Couple AFTER pics, but before any wax yet:

it's the same "general" area...if you see the first photo with the decals still on, you'll see the old Nautique guide on post on the trailer. the two photos that have decals removed and have been sanded you'll see the pvc pipe of the very same guide on. All 3 photos are taken of the rear port side of the boat.   All within 2 feet of each other give or take. :)

Sure..I didn't have a good FULL shot of Port side, but it was beat to hell from Dock rash. This starboard side, looks OK in these photos, but you can still see, pretty dull and faded.

yeah...NO Mop n Glow here! just alot of sweat and elbow grease. Now I know some won't like the wax I use..but I've used it on ALL of my sports cars I've ever owned and have been very happy with it..and that is Meguiars Carnuba wax.

And YES...all of my kids like this boat, after having them ALL learn to ski behind my little old 3.0 omc cobra (4 cyl) I/O this has been a big step up for them.

Yes, my 13 yr old (pictured with the boat) actually did ALL of the interior vinyl. It had alot of staining, and some mold on it..he went through and sprayed all the seats, combing pads, etc with LA's Totally Awesome, and then took a nylon bristle brush and scrubbed them all clean, then went over ALL of that with 303 protectant. Then he cleaned the windshield, dash, etc. He's proud of the boat.

What's up H-Man? you've been starting to sound a lot like Pete used to sound lately. And he's been mellowing. In the great space time continuum are we seeing the parallel impacts of the law of conservation of crankiness and the combined impacts of retirement and post wedding nookie?

some NWZ expert should chime in on that pin tape, looks totally odd to me. Certainly the skinny piece should be on the bottom but i've also seen just solid 1/2" separating the colors

seems like 90-91 go the double tape (1/2" on top separating the colors, 1/8" in the white) and then transitioned through 92 towards the single 1/2". I've definitely never the double tape inverted like flyweed's boat

I am going ALL original graphics on her. just trying to decide what to go with for those replacement pinstripes, we are currently talking about. Otherwise, I have all the original decals in my garage, waiting application.

Well, there have been a handful of members who put their decals (the slanted kind) on the wrong sides of the boat because that's the way they got it, then later regretted it. Think about it now before they go on!

Posted By: flyweed

Yeah, no worries there. I've been studying up before I even ordered the decals. I also printed out the original 1993 color brochure...so I have both style and placement that I am going directly off the 93 color brochure.

That looks amazing. For what it is worth, my 1993 has a bit different graphics package than your (later build I think) and it has two solid 1/2" stripes. One on the top and one of the bottom. But, I don't have the "world" graphic like you do either. A look at the 1992 and 1993 brochures would show the differences.

Hey guys...few more days, and a couple more photos. ALMOST THERE! First photo is after FINAL sanding. 2nd photo is after first polish. It was overcast, so it's hard to appreciate what it looks like. but if you look at the trailer guide, you can see how easily it Mirror images in the boat finish. I even got rid of ALL the shadow from the old lettering on the boat.

Tomorrow will be final polishing filling the couple dings you can still see by the trailer wheel yet. and then finishing her up.

final sanding done

first polish

Your progess looks terrific.   Can you detail the steps you used I.e. what grit sand papers, what type of cutting compound and polish? Also did you use a rotary air sander or do it by hand?

The family just picked up a winter project so I am trying to read up on all these threads and gain as much info as possible.

Depends on the amount of "damage" on the gel coat, upload a few pics of your ride so we can see! I simply used the 3M one step oxidation remover/wax, went over it multiple times (by hand) and the results were very good.....still not where I want it to be, but getting there.

aint' NO amount of 3M remover/wax would work on taking the scratches and shadowing out that was on my boat sides.   I used EXACTLY what Pete just posted a link to up above. This process works perfectly. I did use a variable speed rotary polisher that saved some serious arm fatigue..but I still did MOST of the wet sanding with a rubber block.

Here is a photo of the worst side damage from "dock rash"

White lake or n3 may have the 1/4-1/4-1/2 double pin. You need a 1/2" pin between the charcoal and cranberry.

Posted By: velde99
Date Posted: August-30-2016 at 11:56pm
I have become somewhat of an expert trying to find pinstripe tape. 1/2 & 1/4 double line tape is usually custom made. Zach at N3 used to get it for us. Not an option now. Plus it was EXPENSIVE! So eBay has a company that has almost exactly what you need, but you need to buy 1/2" as well as 1/4" rolls and do it manually. Medium grey is what you need. I just did my boat- and it is a close as you'll find without going custom.

Here is link- that you'll need to copy and paste. You'll need to do two rolls. $33 is a steal. Hope it helps.

for those of you guys following my thread...I am looking for a photo or image of the dash mounted mirror/bracket for my 1993 SN.

I have purchased a new mirror, and the "bracket" is still mounted to the dash on my boat, but I am missing SOMETHING that makes the connection from the bracket to the mirror, and need to see what it is, so I can fabricate one, or buy one.

I think the sides look pretty good.

Funny story about the boat in your picture. Some friends of ours thought it was us floating in a cove last weekend so they pulled up behind it and "surprised" the new owners. Nothing like a little platform action (ahh. the platform life!). We were good lake friends with the previous owners. I guess we need to meet the new owners.

Yep, I got the two different grey pinstripes in the mail yesterday, so once the rain stops, I'll be doing the final pin striping down the sides. Then the sides will be ALL DONE! Well, except for the waxing.

Also, for any of you guys with more knowledge on the boat and trailers...can anyone tell me what trailer I have? Make, Model, etc? There are NO decals on it anywhere, except for the white pin stripe that runs down each side..and then there is a "serial number" stamped into the metal towards the front..but that's it.

I'd love to get more info on it if possible.

Well I'll put in a little something. I'm certainly no expert of course but...some parts of your trailer bear some resemblance to my DHM. The sorta flush mount rear lights, the guide post mounts, the wheels, the fenders, the carpet on the boat-side back of the fenders, the bunk mounts underneath.

The step pads are bigger than mine though. And just generally I certainly don't know what all might be pretty generic and generally universally used by other manufacturers.

Maybe a point in the right direction though.

Well, since I am on "hold" to finish the wiring of my dash, waiting for a new breaker, I decided to start in on the boat pin stripes. Here's a shot of the light grey stripe between the cranberry and charcoal grey. Really finishes the "look" I think

here's a few more pics.....JUST about done! Got the pin striping on...light grey up top and a darker grey down at the bottom. It's hard to see the dark grey. Plus I got the Transom buffed out, and new rear decals applied. LOOKS GOOD.

it came with a custom cover that snaps along the top of the windshield, down either side of the boat, and across the back, where you see those snaps. I wish it was a full boat cover from stem to stern, but this is what it came with, so it works for me.

Well for those of you following along..I am ALMOST done! I started in on the interior the last few days. I took the dash apart, added new 10 guage ground and "hot" wires to the dash. I re-glued the dash vinyl that was coming loose all the way around the pod, and then polished the entire thing and re-mounted it. I took the windshield off and had it powder coated black and re-installed (sorry no pics of the process, just too busy)

Lastly, I went to the dollar store and picked up some LA's Totally awesome, and cleaned ALL of the seats, rails, engine cover, etc. then gave them all a coat of 303 protectant.

Here's a few shots of the interior. Sorry not the best photos.

What did you use to glue the vinyl? I need to do this.

I use what I know works. Contact Cement (either HH-66 or 3M Scotch-Weld High Performance) . You can buy a toothpaste size tube of it, and a small, flat paintbrush..brush it onto the backside of the dash vinyl, and then paint another layer onto the backside of the dash pod itself.. let them both dry about 15 minutes, then stick together. Works like a charm, and holds forever!

Well, a little Saturday afternoon relaxation! Figured I've done the rest of the boat, I may as well sand and re-do the teak deck next!

Dan, with the sanding it may end up being slippery when wet. It definitely makes it look good though. I chose to just do some wire brushing and cleaning, then lots of oil, it shows some of the tone and staining of being 18 years old but isn't at all slick.

yeah, I wasn't sure how much sanding I should do. The previous owner I don't think ever touched it, so it did need some sanding with some nicks and cuts and other dings in the wood. I think I'll call it good and oil it up good tomorrow and call it good.
