I am thinking about buying an 86 ski nautique 2001 one from a family member. I went out today to look it over. Everything looks great except one spot on the port side stringer. There is an aluminum bracket the runs along the stinger. The very last bolt will not tighten all the way. Does this indicate that the stringer is bad an needs to be replaced or is there another fix? Everywhere else on the stingers seems to be good. Although I only checked where I could reach in the engine compartment.

By not tighten all the way, do you mean it just spins when you turn it without much effort, or it won't tighten down on the aluminum bracket like it was hitting the bottom of a threaded hole?

Justin - Search for a thread on 'stringer hammer test'. Much better indicator.   It is likely an '86 has bad stringers.
