I am about ready to do carpet on my 83 restoration project. Have no template so its all from scratch.

Looking at shaw 24 oz or possibly shaw 40 oz. anyone have experience with these?

also what about skipping the trip around the floor, pro and con?

When I had my 80 I was looking to put a more original blue / black astro turf like Carpet in my boat and TRBenj in Conn. had some great places in Dalton, GA to look at. They even sent me some samples. I just deleted the links so I do not have the contact any more. You might want to try to contact Tim Benjamin via the site (PM) and ask him. It also may be worth checking with site sponsor Christine's Marine since you are in Florida. They are in Orlando and some have gotten carpet from them. I think it was the more one color in the newer boats.
