Hey Guys,
I want to buy a steering cable from a reputable place, but I could not help myself from "Online Showrooming" (comparing prices). Anyhoo, this seems to be what I want for considerably less:
http://www.starmarinedepot.com/seastar-ssc62-qcii-steering-cable-replacement-17.html" rel="nofollow - Steer cable

My current cable has SSC6217 stamped on it. Anyone have an input?
Thanks
Tom
Dang, I just checked the link, and it directs to the home page. If you type in SSC6217 the correct cable comes up.. I guess you can just copy and paste this:

Uh, little help please. I really think my steering cable question is more important than your feeble blizzard problems, especially when it comes to saving ME money.

17' is correct. Th SSC62xx series does not appear to be correct unless someone swapped out your Big-T helm with a lesser version (Safe-T, NFB, etc). Crawl under the dash and see if you can match up your helm to pics online before you order a cable. The SSC61xx series is what crosses to the Big-T. It's ~$15 more expensive than the 61. I usually order my generic steering cables from go2marine, $105 for the ssc6117 and free shipping over $100. Might want to get a few control cables at the same time if you're due (plus pivots).

why change it? you keep cranking on it the way that it is and you're arms will be buff as hell. better than paying for a gym membership if you ask me.

Paging Dr. Tim......So above is a picture of the helm I have, and when I compare it to pics online, it looks like a "Big T". Here is a pic of my steering cable:

Interesting. Here is a thread that suggests that the 61XX line replaces both the old Morse cables as well as 62XX cables. Pretty good info for further steering cable confusion:

I guess I can go with either the 61XX or the 62XX.

61 and 62 are the differences in the nose of the cable where it goes into the helm. There is an adapter on your cable that allows you to screw it onto the helm the one Tim mentioned probably doesn't need an adapter to fit the Big-T.

Can't tell from that angle which helm you have but I like Zach's theory. If you confirm you have a Big T then I'd go with the proper cable vs using the adapter but that's just me.

I probably screwed up, but since a 6217 came out of it, I just picked up a 6217 locally for $83. I will know tomorrow if I have a chance to put it in.
