No. Gathering at Badin Lake in NC on Columbus Day weekend. Some NE and Chicagoland folks making it to that one.

Welcome Pat
Let's take this to the Badin Lake Mini thread. But the quick answer is there's typically varying ages and Models at these events.
Hope you make the trip

Welcome Pat. Boats From the 50s to current show up. It leans more toward vintage than modern tho, with the 60s, 70s and 80s probably the most common, and of those probably the 80s most common. Go to the reunions threads and scroll through the pictures and you will get the flavor of what shows up. Your 64 would fit right in. North Carolina isn't that long a haul from PA. These events are a great combination of cool old boats, a few modern boats, some don't take ourselves too seriously water sports and great folks.

PS: Are you sure it's a 64? Didn't think mustangs came out until 65 and they don't show up in brochures until 66

I think that those in the CT area should plan a mini on Lake Zoar. There is a great sand bar, camping at Kettletown state park and it's 8 miles long with plenty of great water for skiing/boarding and speed runs.

Geez mark of course you wouldn't have a problem.... on a more serious note - get one other person to agree on a date and run with it - at this point in the year its unlikely to produce more than a mini mini but even that will be useful in determining interest in future festivities.

First date to throw out - August 22. Let's see how many people we can get who are avail for this date.

Who's in? The sandbar has a couple of picnic tables where you can put a grill. It's also pretty shallow so a grill with legs like a Weber charcoal grill would work. And it has a full Weber gas grill bolted to them that you can cook on if you bring a propane tank.

I have a trip up ta maine the week of the 8th to the 15th, not sure if i can pull everything back together to camp the weekend after that but i can sure try.

Anyone from the northern New england area and want to meet up for some boating that week I'll be on longlake all week burning some fuel with the family and friends. could plan a sandbar day at sebago or something too.

8/22 doesn't work for me as I have to work, although I may be able to come by later in the day. I am in Newtown and have most of the week before off, so if anyone comes up earlier in the week I should be around. Zoar is a great place to ski and weekdays I don't think I have ever seen the police out there. Kettletown is a nice State campground. We have camped in the past, there is an area where you can anchor your boat.

Ct Mini-Mini. Correct Crafts Roar on Zoar

August 22
Lake Zoar
9:00 am ish - whenever
Exit 14 off of I-84 (If you're driving east take a right off of the ramp, west - take a left then follow signs to ramp)

Once in the water, take a right (standing on the ramp facing the water) and go around the bend, you will see the sandbar, it's marked with buoys - a first for this year. It was fun watching people come flying up the lake and getting grounded, with the buoys that's probably over.

This is a one day event however if you are coming from far away, there is camping at Kettletown state park. There is also a hotel off of exit 16; Crown Plaza. There is another off of exit; 15 Heritage Hotel and Conf Center,

The sandbar is shallow. You could bring a pop-up canopy for shade. There are two picnic tables with a grill. It's pretty crowded on the weekend so if you want to grill, it would probably be a good idea to bring your own. People also bring chairs to set up in the water. And there is a vollyball net.

The lake gets pretty crowded on the weekend so if you want to ski or foot (or wakeboard) early or later is best. Although with 10 miles of lake, you could always find good water, you just need to avoid the yahoos.

There is also a course set up for those that might want to ski a course. It is privately owned but it is on a public lake so anyone can use it.

Great photo, sends me 30 years back down memory lane to many fun days on Zoar.

No bites on my earlier "don't drink the water" post.

If you weren't around Zoar in the 80's, there was a big national news story about the wood chipper murder. Richard Crafts, a Newtown airline pilot murdered his flight attendant wife. Cut her into pieces with a chainsaw. Rented a wood chipper, parked on the bridge in a blizzard, and ran the parts thru the chipper into the lake. A grizzly story indeed. ....

Oh I know all about the Crafts case. I went to UNH where Henry Lee was a professor. There's been quite a few deaths on the lake. One time we were skiing all day, went back to the lake house and watched on the news while they were pulling someone out of the lake right where we were skiing.

Anyway - lol it should be a good day on the lake on 8/22!

My wife just went to nephews wedding reception at Heritage, nice place, I'd bet cheaper than crown plaza.

Also, black rock state park in watertown has camping, is maybe a 30? minute drive.

Boy, you guys are really making me hate work    As I said I have to work on Saturday but I should be able to get out around 12 or 1, depending on traffic, I'm coming from NY, I should be able to be at Zoar around 2:30 or maybe earlier, will anyone still be there by then? Since I am coming from work I will most likely not have a boat will someone be willing to pick me up at the ramp? Please?! I know, I sound pathetic but I would really like to meet up with you guys!

We're planning on coming for the day on Sat. Not sure how many boats/people will make the trip with us- somewhere between 1-4 boats and 2-10 people I imagine.

It is a state ramp so no fees. There is a dock but depending on how busy it is it may be difficult to tie up You may need to be more patient than you would like to be.

Once again I must RSVP unable to attend! INT Slalom Wakeboard tournament in Plymouth on Sat. Aug 22, and Flaunt It swivel ski tournament in Schenectady. NY. Not sure which I am attending as one kid is skiing one and the other kid skiing the other.   I know it'll be a great time. CCF reunions always are, no matter what size! It's all about the kids, which is why I own a Nautique!

Excellent! I'll be the one with a ski nautique.

I have a boom and I'm sure there will be others. Planning on getting there pretty early, dropping stuff off on the sandbar and skiing and maybe footing before the masses decide to muck up the lake.

The weather looks great for tomorrow! 87 with mostly sunny skies.

A few things to note;
Mooring on the sandbar - People usually use 2 lengths of 1" PVC pipes pushed into the sand. One off of the stern, one off of the bow and moor bow out. Make sure you bring something to keep your boat in place.

If you get there before I do, there are a couple places to be wary of;
- Going right, upriver towards the sandbar, it's shallow at the bend to the right(facing the water) of the ramp.
- Under the I-84 bridge, pass between the center of the bridge supports, at the outer supports it's shallow.
- The sandbar is marked with buoys, even still approach with caution. It's sandy so little damage will occur unless you come in hot.
- If you don't know the lake, the center is the safest spot.

Food;
Like I have said before, the sandbar is shallow enough to set up a grill. If you didn't want to bring food, there is a pizza place that will deliver to the ramp.

I'll have my phone with me (Two O Three)Nine One O - Three One One One
Call if you need anything.

Yes, this was a great event- showed us exactly how good of a reunion spot Zoar could be. Great lake, launch, sandbar, and even a campground on the lake... Perfect. Thanks to Mark and Joe for setting up this get together. No pics here, as usual, too busy visiting and skiing. Great to see everyone!

Looks like a great time and lake. I hope I can make it next time.

I was going East but pretty sure I spied the above 99ish burgundy and natural SN on 290 West Saturday morning around 9 on the way for a quick set behind my buddies 89 SN.

Great time on Zoar last Saturday.
Love the lake- excellent venue for a CCFan gathering- Ski course, sand bar, wide open public boat launch, camping, rope swing.

Was nice to see old friends and make new ones too. The kids had a ball playing at the sand bar swimming, making sand sculptures and watching the massive Carp swim around us.

Thanks Mark and Joe for putting this together and hosting us all on your home turf. The ribs cooked over hardwood charcoal AT the sandbar were amazing!

Great photos John- thanks for sharing!

Do it again next year?

That was probably us headed to Zoar and cursing the quality of pavement on 290. We took the pike all the way back to 495 on the return to avoid that potholed piece of crap highway.
