Yup, i was laid off on Friday after 2 years of service. The new plant manager didn't like me from day one. I feel he thought of me as a threat since I was offered the position. My accomplishments seem to go forgotten in the new building - 6000 amps at 480 with 4160 volts into our service entrance. 500 tons of refrigeration on roof with 300 HP of water pumps and the piping to support 20+ blow molders. 550 HP of compressed air and it's distribution system! Damn bureaucrats!!

Very sad to hear Pete. They obviously did not know what to do with a man of your many talents. Somebody will figure it out. I wish you all the best in your new search.

Sounds like age discrimination to me . . .

But retirement ain't so bad Pete. Just need to downsize the budget a little.    Maybe you can make good use of that shop up north this fall.

How's that launch coming, by the way?

Feel bad for you Pete, don't know just what to say. I know you give me the business for retiring but I just could not deal with the politics anymore. We usually changed managers every two years but the worst one we ever had was there 10 because no one else wanted him. I just don't get the mindset of managers who come to work every day with a chip on their shoulders. This one would yell at us first thing every morning,I finally told him he sure had an odd way of motivating people. Good luck on what ever you decide to do.

Pete...Sorry to hear this news. As you know, I know a few plastics processors around the Chicago area. I can put some feelers out for you. There has to be another molder close by that can use your skills. I will sure do all I can to help you out.

Sorry to hear Pete.

Now it's a new begining. Your a smart guy, do what you love, never work another day and made a living at it.

PS The Lake Norman get-together is 9/12-14 no need to take vacation.

Pete, so sorry to read your news...as others have said may be time to think of a different direction, a man with all your skills and knowledge would be great in a Tec Collage if there are such things in the USA, you have the ability to change the life outcome for some of the young in the USA... less pay but more time off too as you pass on your abilities.
The only thing you may need to do is temper your approach...

Good Luck Pete...Roger.

Sorry to hear about this Pete. A guy with your talent surely will be snatched up somewhere soon. The monogramed button down shirts that are worn daily (even to the lake) ought to be a shoe in for a great job with someone. I got my fingers crossed and sending up prayers for you buddy.

Sorry Pete, I know how you feel. I was in the trades as a woodworker. Always looking for work. Finally after several years of bad economy at the end of my work career and only at 62 I took my retirement last year. Never been happier. No more searching for work and yes you can be frugal and have a very nice existence. Best wishes.

If he would just get rid of his 10 year old flip phone and get a modern one he could use it as a hotspot and be set, that's what we do when were in Florida for the winter. If needed it's cheaper to buy a couple more gigs than to have a line run in that you'd only use for 4-5 months of the year.

As with finding any job, the key is finding one that fits my background/experience. I've been utilizing Craig's List and have 4 resumes out there. My biggest downfall is the lack of CAD.

Pete, welcome back and hang in there. I played the same game three years back, it is a pain to start over but it will turn out great.
That does not mean it was easy or that it did not play with my head.
I was amazed how many jobs I talked to that preferred to hire experienced people that were used to the grind of work rather than starting with youngsters. It worked out well for me and it will work out well for you. As far as getting all those pending projects done I bet you are in the same boat as I was. Lots of projects but I was not willing to spend money on them till checks rolled in again. I started the list of To Do Items, two lists, those that needed labor only and those that needed cash to move forward. Labor only jobs got the attention. Play it safe financially and you won't have to worry about catch up once the checks roll in again. Best of Luck.
