Hello,

Looking for a Ski Tique.

I have looked at a few in my local area and those on the internet.

I'm wondering anyone has one for sale or know of one for sale privately.

Ideally located in southern WI or nothern IL.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks.

As much as this pains me to say..... PM or email Dwouncmd on this forum. Wayne is toying with the idea of selling the Tique. (It is awesome, but in NC!)

Thanks for the info.

Huh, didn't know Wayne had her actively for sale................ What are you looking for? Different year(s)? Project? with tower? What is the "Wish List"?

Steve, by both boats I think he meant the Madison and Chicago CL listings, not Waynes. Don't worry, Wayne won't sell it without giving you first dibbs....I don't think.

Hi,

Steve, Yes I did mean both the Madison and Chicago listing.

I'm not looking for a project boat. I'm looking to go skiing.

My wishlist is that the boat be in good mechanical, structural shape & trailer. A rear seat and swim deck would be nice. Not tower required. I need to go footin'.

I have been reading the forums for quire sometime and I'm not interested in stringer repair.

I would also be open to a Nautique however prefer the barefoot pull of a Tique.

Outside of the listings mentioned above the Tiques I've found are in the $7 - $10,000 range. I'm more so looking in the $4500 - $5000 range.

Thanks

The NC boat has a very strong engine. IT would be worth the ride to Central NC. It is in great shape.

I would drive for a mechanically and structurally sound boat.

Larry,
Unfortunately, I must pass on first dibs. The Tique can't come back home.

DMH,
As far as strong motor, you won't find one better than the low hour 350 in Wayne's Tique. As far as Mechanically and structurally sound - ditto! That is an AWESOME lil' boat. Was sad to see her go!

.... but she won't go for $5,000.... or at least she shouldn't.

Look at the Tique in my signature....that's her.

They do come up fairly often.... If you want a better than 7/10, it is going to be over your projected budget. Elbow grease will get you in the $4-5,000 range...usually upholstery needs as well.

Besides, the searching / shopping is the fun part!

I disagree with Steve, 4-5k should buy a pretty darn nice Tique. Tip top of the market is 7k or so and that takes a very special boat AND buyer. The boats are very small, making them pretty fast with modest power, but they never came with anything bigger than the 302/305 from the factory... So they are no faster than a similar nautique with the typical 351w- especially with a footer behind them. 2+ footers, advantage nautique. Fun, cool boats- but they are pretty far from a "barefoot boat". More like a small hot rod that is still pretty functional despite its small size.

Why is that? Because there is no such thing as a 75 Tique? Can't blame me. I bought it way back before I got educated on CCf and the title or registration said it was a 75. By the time I figured out there was no such thing, it was too late. It was built in 75, does that count?

I will keep that in mind, but sadly, I will not be making it to LKN in Sept. Prior commitment. There will however be other opportunities to share a 6-pack of margies, I'm sure.

I am thinking about selling to get a 196 for the kids (hoping they will get serious about skiing and I can't afford a 200)

I had the Tique out today with my two oldest and their cousin. It was a blast. To me the ski wake is better than my 89 SN.

Hello,

Has anyone ever seen this boat around?

I recall that our 1983 2001 had the Commander 351. Looks like this one has the 302 Commander.

It's a bit difficult to tell what the interor material is made & it's unclear on engine hours.

Any thoughs on this boat?

Hi.

Air206:

It's out of my budget however I would think that there's some room to negotiate.

It does have shinny new paint. I'm wondering how long it might stay like that. It seems like most hulls are colored as opposed to painted. I'm unclear on this.

Regarding the deviation, I do prefer the original look.

TRBenj:

I would prefer the classic look. That aside, what else is a disaster?

Thanks

David - don't get him started!

The paint will not take the beating that gel will.... Depends on the use how long it will be before repaint is in order. In another thread, a fellow was extolling the virtues of paint over gel but.... most here feel that painting a gel coated boat ruins it...... but it is shiny.

Don't get me started is right!

That guy made significant nonoriginal modifications to the boat, which detract both from the classic look as well as the durability. And he expects to be paid handsomely for it! Horrendous. He's been trying to unload it for at least 2 years, btw. Apparently I'm not the only one failing to see the value he "added".

I'm not concerned with shinny. I'd prefer the classic look. Like the 78 in your signiture (Air206) for example.

They did mention that they've had it for couple years. The interior doesn't look particularly durable and there's now a hole in the dash for the radio.

What else is detracting from the durability?

I am appreciating your feedback.

There is a big difference between my former Tique, Tim's former Tique and what you posted. The surface looks a little similar but what is original and what is quick fix is significant...... I don't want to pick apart for sale boats... they may be past or future CCfan friends'..... but that boat has many cosmetic "variations"....... and that's without knowing structure and function.

Hahahaha!!!   I've often wondered how people can get masking tape to bend like that.   And, when it's all done, just exactly what is the arrow suppose to be pointing at???

Maybe they intended to do a flame, then just said: aw to hell with it!

Posted By: Orlando76
Date Posted: July-29-2014 at 9:33am
I've seen the same horrible stripe/arrow on a couple boats before, identical. It makes my eyes burn. I'm guessing this guy has redecaled a few others the same stupid way.

I'd stick with a $4500 budget. Over 5k and it better be an amazing boat! That'll get you in the water tomorrow in a good looking clean boat and footing.

318's never went into the Tiques or was Chrysler pushed out by '76? We had a '73 (I think) Skier that had the original 318 in it.

Posted By: TRBenj
Date Posted: July-29-2014 at 10:08am
'74 is about the latest I've seen a small Chrysler in a cc... Except for a few mid 80's boats that got 360's (but they're rare). It was mostly Ford with a few chevies mixed in by the time the Tique came out in '76.

The over-curved stripe is what happens if you install decals with the stripe cut straight. Due to the curvature of the hull, the decal actually has to be cut with a downward curve. Rookie mistake! That's why repainting those graphics (note: only the graphics should be painted, NOT the entire hull) is usually recommended for both the original look AND ease of getting it in the right spot.

I still question the motivation to look at the Tique as it's not a superior barefoot boat to the larger (more powerful) models... But if you're drawn to it for other reasons, that's ok. Has this one been looked at? Looks clean. Not sure of the asking price.

There are a couple motives to the Tique.

I'd like to be able to pull behind my Subaru which has a tow capacity or 2700lbs. As you know I am also budget conscience and I'm not looking purchase a tow vehicle.

Additially, in the price range, I hope to find a good solid Tique for years to come. As opposed to a 2001 (which seems to start at $8500.00) that's been run hard and needs to be brought back to life.

These days I'd like to get out take a few barefoot circles & back steps and teach my nieces and nephews to ski.

Thus passing the torch.

These are my motives.

(Yes I looked at the boat in the link below. No longer for sale)

Posted By: TRBenj
Date Posted: July-29-2014 at 12:59pm
Smaller tow vehicle and limited storage space are the top 2 reasons to gravitate towards a Tique... Now I get it. I don't think a 2001 would stretch the budget that much though, to be honest... And I think you'd be amazed at the improved functionality and ski performance of the boat over a 16 footer... I just sold a very clean '84 2001 for nowhere near $8k, 5-6k would buy you a VERY nice one- but if the tow vehicle is a hard constraint, forget it- 2001 is 1k lbs heavier with the delux trailer and even the Tique will stress a 2700lb rating pretty good. The 2nd gen SN falls right between the 2 in size, weight and functionality. Just some things to keep in mind.

I would also add the Skier to your list- those never had platforms (neither did Tiques before '78) and their pylon diameter is a little smaller (2" vs 2.5") so boom work requires a modified clamp- but otherwise they're the same boat minus the graphics. Skier used the same 16'5" hull 71-75 that the Tique got in '76.

Howdy,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Any idea what the tow weight of the 81-85 2001 is.

Thx.

I totally understand the desire for a Ski Tique, lil boat with a bada$$ attitude. It's def on my to do list. The Skier doesn't have tracking fins as the Tique has one correct? Keep in mind the '80's Tiques were actually 2nd generation Ski Nautique hulls.

My .02, watch the NC area. I seem to find good boats for $4k.

Posted By: TRBenj
Date Posted: July-29-2014 at 4:08pm
2300 lbs for an early 2001, plus 750-900 on the trailer (83.5+ delux being towards the upper end).

2000 + 750 for a 2gen SN (70-81) or 2gen Tique (82-84)

1600 + 450 for a 1gen Tique (76-81) or Skier

Yes, the Tique has a single small fin, slightly better turning (though less fun) than a Skier. Definitely doesn't track like a 2001 (3 fins and a padded keel), or even a 2gen SN (2 fins).

I think Tim meant the 16'ers.
82 Tique is same hull as the G2 SN, not the 16' Tique. I almost bought an '82 with a 350 (original equipped).

Correct. The 16'5" 76-81 Tique sold in respectable numbers and is the boat the OP is talking about... I'm guessing he didn't even know the 2gen 82-84 Tique existed, as it never sold in big numbers. Most were still 302's, as it was a budget boat- though the larger small blocks were optional.

Those don't do anything great, but they don't do anything terrible either. With that age and mileage you could expect a lot of use out of it, just not great mileage or much power. If you are looking at it purely as a second vehicle for pulling/camping duty it would be hard to do better for the price.

Yes, one did but she didn't make the cut. She refused to change her name

Hello Ya'll,

Another good day in the boat.

Question. I'm not sure if I should start a new thread for this.

I store the boat at a friends house which is quite a bit away from mine. At the end of the day I put the cover on and the boat is soaked. I can only imaging the moisture havoc on both hull and the motor.

Any suggestion on to prevent moisture problems? fan, vented cover, no cover, ect.

Thanks,
David

I have a 1977 ski tique that I have considered selling. We use it every weekend for slalom, wake boarding and kneeboarding. Great little boat. My price was in line with what you are looking to spend. I am in Nashville.

Ideally you want the boat as dry as possible before you put the cover on. All that lake water with no means of escaping through evaporation is going to cause troubles in the end. Mold and mildew on the seats/carpet, stinky carpet but worse it's going to allow water vapor intrusion on those precious wood stringers.

I don't guess your buddy would step up and put the cover on it for you after it dries out after spending a day in the hot sun with the engine cover up?
If this is not an option you may be able to install those vents in the cover that allows the cover to breathe but won't let rain in. I don't have a lot of experience with this as mine is garage kept but I know plenty of guys out there don't have that option so they'll pipe up and tell you what they do.

The boat will still dry out if the cover is breathable (sunbrella).

You will also rapidly accelerate corrosion (rust) on the engine. It's a battle of two evils, sun and rain. I would leave it open if truly soaked.

TRB: Thanks I'll look into that.

Hollyood, Thanks.

For tonight I left about 2 feet open at the back. A friend is going to fully cover it tomorrow.

I put my cover on with a "wet" boat. Not soaked from rain but just from quick run on lake, couple rounds skied. For 5 years I haven't seen any problems yet but I always run 2 or 3 fans 24/7 with the doghouse propped up a bit. These covers with the aid of fans move air, they are not air tight unless you're duct taping the sides and at least with my '76 deck and the rope guards and ladder there's a good vent gap for air.

The boat looks awesome, but the wording in the add is almost cryptic. English is important in selling anything to us "mericans.
