1979 fish Natique 454 marine with Rodchester
.all was good until I rebuilt the engine went with a new edelbrock carb
Problem is as soon as the 4 barrel kicks in it back fires through carb and it Boggs Down and won't go any faster . Run perfect when in 2 barrel . Only thing I have noticed is that I didn't reinstall the wedge plate .
Any suggestions? Thanks

You probably need to put Rochester back on.I run two of them without wedge and no problem.Just built big block and rebuilt Quadrajet because I think they run better than others especially Edelbrock.Did you change intake to square bore?

Same intake small holes frt and big in rear. I put adapter plate to match intake on bottom and carb on top

The spreadbore adaptors are hard to get a good seal to manifold not recommended. If it was me I would put Quadrajet back on see if problem goes away.Timing and advance set and working properly?Ignition upgrades?

Well scratch the carb
Updated info
Pretty sure now it's the velvet drive tranny
When it hiccups usually heavy accel
It's lasts for a second and RPM's shoot up
Usually happens in 4 barral at about 2400 RPms
Shoots up to about 3600 RPms when hiccup happens I think tranny is slipping
Any suggestions and what is the correct fluid

Tico let's see some pictures of that Fish Nautique. They are really cool boats.

The fluid is Dexron III and there is no drain. To change the fluid you have to get a hand pump and suck it out. It's pretty easy though.

I'm sure others will chime in, but if it really is the transmission, it sounds like a rebuild might be in your future.

Ok more new info and sorry for the lack of
. I didn't mention that I recently put a 4 blade prop to gain more speed.
The prop shop said that trans is likely not slipping instead at certain RPM's
The prop is catching an air pocket " ventilation"
And they are telling me to put my 3 blade prop back on .

Well that would be the easiest fix to see if it is indeed your prop. Put the old one back on and see if the symptoms go away.

If they do, others on this forum may have better prop selections for you.

For posting pictures, are you posting on a computer, phone, or tablet?
