Hi All

I recently bought a 1992 nautique excel under the belief that it was running fine but just needed exaust manifolds. Under closer inspection I see that the engine is totally stuffed. Being in Africa, there are no mechanics to fix the engine. I am thinking of removing the engine, strenghtening the transom and installing 2 x 60 hp Yamaha outboards. Has anyone ever seen this done?
Please send me any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Regards

Sean

no, that is not the best idea. either sell it and buy an outboard, or repplace ore rebuild the engine. there are a ton of new technology gas, and now diesel motors that can be installed.

No..no..and he-- no!!!
First of all it would be under powered...
2nd...would not not handle nearly as well...
3rd...would never perform near as good as it was intended with the V drive...
4th...would look really...well...sort of sucky looking!

Sorry man...just not a good idea!

What is happening with the engine now???
will it turn over...what makes you think it's "stuffed" Stuffed...what exactly do you mean? Just tryin to understand whats wrong with the engine that would make you want to toss it out!

stang72- engine does turn over - no idea about the gearbox. Seems to be missing waterpump and alternator - not even sure what engine it is!! Says Pleasure craft marine on sided of engine- does have a z drive. Unfortunately this was a one day sale with the bloke leaving the country the next day. Main problem being - i'm not a mechanic, no spares available in Tanzania, perhaps i could take some pics and send them to you and you can let me know what you think?

Sean...if you can post a few pics...do so.

Your engine should be a 351 ford PCM (I believe)...others on the site will know more about that boat...I know the older ones better.

I think it's worth exploring...see what you can do with the engine that is in it now!If your new to the machanical part....are you willing to give it a shot? If it's only needing a few basic parts...you can do it your self...lots of support here...the guys on this site can be a huge help!

Sean...if you go to the reference section on this site...you will find a PCM manual for 1989 ford and chevy...it tells how to identify your engine and you can see pictures that would show where your water pump is or alternator etc...good place to start!Tranny info to.

Sean, I gotta agree with Kyle and Stang.
I'm thinking that if you have the ability and fort*tude to gut the boat and redesign the transom to accommodate two 60 hp outboards, then you unknowingly have the ability to rework or replace the engine and tranny.
There is amazing support here. As Stang mentioned, check out the reference section here to determine what you have. Post some pics, ask some questions.
I take it you want to boat. IMHO, for what it would cost to "transform" your boat in a "Monster Garage" sort of way, you'd be wasting your time and your money. I believe you'd be throwing good money after bad.
There is a great wealth of knowledge at this site. If your willing to do some leg work, CCFan's are willing to help. Just my thought.
