    Posted: June-26-2019 at 12:37pm
I just got a new custom cover for my 2009 Nautique 196. Made to cover boat without removing Bimini. got the new cover and it fits perfect. But when we get rain I am getting a leak that causes the floor in front of the drivers seat to become wet.

I had a 2005 Nautique 196 with a very similar cover but never had and issue with a leak like this. The only way I can see water getting in would be at the base of the windshield where it meets the bow. But there is a rubber seal or gasket that should prevent water from entering.

Any ideas? I am attaching photos of the 2 boats with the covers. The 2005 is shown on the trailer with some shadows, the 2009 is at the dock with some close up shots.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want a soggy moldy floor and I am also worried about water getting into the dash pad and any other electronics.

Hmmmm, is the ‘05 perfect pass still? I think the best thing to do is sell the ‘05 to me. Two Nautiques is one too many. How’d they “seal” fabric around the sides of the boat? I’ll bet water is entering at the sides or where it’s notched for Bimini and traveling along cover and gel coat. Or probably the puck.

Sorry Orlando, sold the 05 and it was PP. I did have an overlap of about 2 months when I did own one to many Nautiques. The fabic on the 09 extends down to below the rub rail where the snaps are. The 05 cover didn't extend that far so I don't think water is coming in the sides. One other note, last year I had a cover that covered the entire boat , bow included and never had an issue.

The cowl vents appear a suspect entry path

Consider cover them with something that runs up the windshield and below the cover and see it things improve next rain,

Maybe the vent hoses are cracked that connect to the vents under the windshield? Water must go in there, but if the hoses are intact it would just drain down to the bilge.

I was thinking that too but I have crawled under the bow and can't even seem to find those vents, even with someone shining a bright light into them from the outside. And the 05 Nautique also had the same vents not covered and no leaks on that boat.

As I said, I crawled under the bow and cant find any drain hoses connected to the vents. The only drain hose I can find is on the passengers side and that only drains the cup holder and the glove box.

Crawl under the dash and have someone spray down the boat with a garden hose (or just dump buckets of water down the windshield.

May have found the problem. Called a Nautique Dealer, Adirondack Marine, Vey good knowledgeable staff. When boats are originally assembled the windshields are not attached(shipping issue) so the dealer ends up installing it.
Apparently when the windshield was installed on my boat(not by Adirondack Marine by the way) the dealer missed a few screws that secure the windshield to the deck. I found them with the help of Adirondack Marine. There are 10 screws total, On the left side half of the windshield I found one screw was installed but was actually stripped and not doing anything. Another screw had not even been put in at all. So I put in a new slightly larger diameter screw and it seemed to tighten properly.
Next big rain may be tomorrow which will be the test. Hopefully it will solve the issue.
