Hi Guys, I need to order some gel coat to repair a couple of nicks and I was hoping for some help determining what color the hull and deck of my 99 Super Sport is. I think that most if not all boats around this era had Silver Cloud hulls and decks but I am curious if my hull and deck are Natural? The main stripe is obviously Black but I am not sure if the secondary stripe is Zephyr or Natural? The deck and hull are much lighter than the secondary stripe but I am not sure they are Silver Cloud.
here is the color wheel for 99. I think this 98 Air might have confirmed my suspicion that the hull and deck are Natural and not Silver Cloud. After looking through the 98 catalog while typing this I am pretty confident my boat is Black and Zephyr with a Natural deck and hull. I know it's tough to tell on pics but please let me know what you think. I know I won't get an exact match since the boat is 18 years old but I'd like to start with something close. I will have to do some more searching to see if I can find the Natural gel coat for sale. |

Shawn,
I too can't really tell from the picture, but I wanted to let you know that for my 2002 Sport I found that Spectrum Gel Coat was used. You can buy Spectrum Gel coats at www.Iboats.com. I was not able to find it anywhere but I Boats. They offer quarts and gallons and some touch up repair kits in a paste form. However, they do not offer all colors in the kits and only some colors are available as one gallon containers. This stuff has a shelf life so buying a larger quantity does not work well. My boat has some DARK RED and it is only available in one gallon sizes. When you buy from them they provide some great instructions and there web-site is a big help. I already purchased a quart of Natural and I do not believe it is available any more. They seem to phase out some of the colors over time. Nautique Parts.com has some Spectrum repair kits on hand, but nothing I could use. Also, I would be concerned about the shelf life, but what they have may be fresh. Also, there is a company titled Mini Craft of Florida, Inc., that may be able to help you. I need to see if they can make me a small quantity of Dark Red. Good luck, Donald |

In the past the smallest Mini Craft would sell was a quart Don, and it was over 100 for a custom mix. I sent in a piece from the Mustang's deck,it was close but no match, but between it and an off the shelf color I was able to get pretty close. When I had a slight mishap with the 95,I got the small Specktrum Silver Cloud paste kit, it was a touch too dark.

Thanks everybody! I am now even more confident that it is Natural/Neutral hull and deck.
I had already been checking out iBoats and they have the color but only in quart or gallon size. The repair I need to make is very minor so the little repair paste would be perfect but that seemingly does not exist. I will look into Mini Craft to see if they might be able to help. Alternatively I may just go with something like this. Anybody have any experience with kits like this? I figure I can get the match close enough with this. The area is under the platform so an inexact match won't bother me much. Just sick of looking at the gouge every time I go to hook up the tie downs on the trailer. |

You have nothing to loose by trying the Evercoat kit. You'll need to take a dremel type tool to taper the gouge much like feather edging a paint repair, like this but more flatter angle \ / . Someday if you don't like it or the right color comes along you can grind it out and do it again. The hardest part is matching and like I said in my last post getting the "correct" color is no guarantee that it will.

Shawn,
The kits do work but as Gary mentioned getting the color match is the hardest part. Add the tints before the hardener. That will give time to adjust the color. The tints are very strong so I suggest using just the tip of a toothpick to dipped into the tints to keep the amount small. You also won't need much since it's a light color you're matching. I remember the first time I used one of the gel kits' I squeezed WAY too much tint into the base and it had to go in the trash!! |

Was pretty sure it said Neutral so just checked and, you're right enough, in the 97 brochure, it says 'Neutral' for the Ski Nautique but 'Natural' for the Sport Nautique. Looks the same but maybe this is a different colour after all?

Did you find a source for the 'natural' gel coat? Would be interested as I have a few dings I'd like to repair.

Gary, are you suggesting to taper the edge because the Evercoat kit is not a paste like the spectrum repair kits? Or is that just good practice either way? I don't have any experience with gel coat repair but will be getting help from my brother who does have experience. Thanks for the info. Pete if I go with a kit like this I will be sure to go easy on the tint, thanks for the tip. |

Iboats has it in quart ($105) and gallon($238) sizes but not the small paste repair kit. I was thinking maybe we could work out a split of a quart but not sure how feasible that is with shipping. On Iboats I am seeing some colors for other boats that look very close. I think I might reach out to Spectrum and see if they can tell me what color might be the closest or the same with a different name for another boat manufacturer. I will update here if they have an answer for me. |

I have a quart of the neutral that I've had in my fridge unopened for about 18 months for a couple of small dings in my SN. I don't know if it's the same color, but my boat is within driving distance from you if you'd like to check it out. |

Shawn what happens if you don't taper it is that you see a "ring" where the new gel stops and the old begins, sort of like a pothole repair. Found it out the hard way when I was repairing holes in the deck of my Mustang. I noticed it in the ivory more than the blue because it left a dark line between the two.

Pete I would bet that it's a typo and the color is neutral. |
