A previous owner of my boat had the upholstery re-done, but 'forgot' to do the cut outs for the speakers. I'd like to install some speakers there now, and to keep it original (hey it's Walt's ex-boat after all!) and hide the speakers I ordered the speaker cloth already.
Now need to find some speakers. Anybody can tell me what size speakers I need? I think I read somewhere some time ago that some speakers won't fit behind the cloth. Any suggestions for (affordable) speakers that'll fit?
Thanks!

I think stock was 5 1\4 for rear mount. As you know, most people will front load 6.5" speakers. More choices, Easy to do, and better sound quality than what comes through the PVC tube and mesh screen.

I think some people have rear loaded 6.5s but it may take some shimming so the cone of the speaker dissent hit the combing pad panel.

Do your combing pads even have the PVC rings anymore? If not, you are better than half way to front loading. ;)

I rear loaded my 6.5 speakers with tweeters attached to factory speaker grilles from the rear. Plenty of room. Used the spacers in front of the grilles. No cibrarion in spite of 120 watts per speaker (4). Sorry I can't remember the brand but they're not wetsounds--the other ones.

Haven't had a chance to check yet, but even if the rings are there I should just remove them and 6.5 will fit then. Just want to make sure they fit behind the cloth.
