So many of you know Donnie from Green Lake. He bought Steve Ripple's 92 Ski Nautique.
Donnie was just towing the boat up to Minocqua for the week and had a set back. He looked back on the raid to realize the boat's windshield was missing. Something must have gone through it and shattered the glass. It was a one piece (slightly curved) windshield. Anyone know (or have experience) with finding replacements? It would help a lot if it were in Wisconsin or Northern Illinois. I can post pics when I get home but you get the idea. Thanks! Chris |

Well lucky for him it is flat glass and should be pretty easy to replace at any local glass shop. I think the glass is 1/8". The glass is flat and is put it the rounded frame. Should be no more that a couple $ bucks.

Any shop recs out there?
I haven't had much time to research myself since I'm on the road flying right now. Trying to help Donnie out who's on vacation and probably has bugs in his teeth. |

I can't help getting it fixed but for the future he may want to add a support brace. I am currently on my third windshield on my '92. When the first one broke I thought something probably had hit it but after the second one broke I thought it might have been caused by vibration. I added a support bar in the middle of the windshield between the frame and the dash and haven't had a problem since. I used a couple of windshield brace feet like these Feet (except I found some chrome ones) and some aluminum rod stock from Ace hardware. You can sort of see it in the picture.

Chris, I missed the detail regarding Donnie's location. I was focused on the glass. Donnie, Any luck with a replacement? Glass shop as suggested? I doubt Watercraft would have one but worth a try. However, I'm sure the cost would be slightly higher. |

Chris,
That center glass panel is available from Nautique. The only thing that gets you is the shipping. |

Threadjack- Pete, it was on my mind all week to pm you and see if you were up for a visit, it just didn't happen. The weather last week was perfect, always hard to leave the lake when we only have a week up there.. We were in Phelps. I would have like to see your addition and set up there, next year. My father-in law, daughter and I ended up in three lakes Thursday morning after the bad storm in the morning looking for a place to eat breakfast because we lost power. I ran through watercraft sales really quick because I wanted to get back to the lake. |

Good call Joel! I remember seeing a similar boat/year and the shop manager telling me they planned to part the boat. |

Last couple times I've been through there I've meant to get more out of someone in charge about the CC's on the racks, and which ones they know owners would be willing to sell. Theres maybe a 81' anniversary, but up too high to be sure. Definitely a tri color blue 84'

Joel or anyone,
Next time you're in the neighborhood, we'll get together and go over to Watercraft. With everything going on, I haven't been over there yet this summer but would like to. I'd give Ryan a call to make sure he's in so he could fill us in. He's also got a Wildcat for sale that I want in the water so I can see how it runs. |

Just a quick update now that I'm back from the great Northwoods. Donnie and I got a hold of a guy at watercraft sales that had knee replacement windshield. Turns out he wanted $1000 for the entire thing. We post to say, I think that was a little bit out of budget. I guess were back to Square one.
Thanks for the attempts in the meantime! Chris |

What does a knee replacement have to do with Donnie's windshield?

Wow. I just read my own post and realized it made no sense.
That's what happens when you dictate to the iphone while driving through the north woods. The moral of the story is the guy wanted a lot of money for a windshield. It seems kind of odd that he's parting out a 92 and was unwilling to deal with the windshield. I'm assuming he didn't pay much for the entire boat and the big ticket items would be the engine and trans. How long is he going to wait until someone with a 92 needs a windshield and is willing to pay $1k plus probably need it to be shipped. I guess that's why I'm not in the boat parts business. |

Chris,
It made perfect sense to me except I understand you meant to say the guy over at Watercraft needs a brain replacement! I warned you:

I'm curious as to why Sanger went to a 2 piece (smooth curve) windscreen on the DXII. Cost, handling, manufacturability, not shattering?
I am positive that bend is not good for longevity. Wouldn't take much of a rock to shatter it. The outside surface is under tension and prone to breakage. |

Scott Pellaton got back to me quick. Taylor, their new source, doesn't make single panes as big as their previous source (out of business).
I would definitely add a support and consider going 2 piece if I had to replace one of these curved single pane screens... |
