I need to replace the stern tube on my nautique and I've found its what looks to be a bronze tube which peels out into a sheet to hold itself in, I can't really explain it but I'd really like to know if anyone knows anything about replacing it and can give me a push in the right direction?

Keanu,
Here in the states we call them "logs". Take a look at Buck Algonquin. A stern tube is a long passage where the prop shaft runs typically in a sail boat but terminology can vary. You will need to cut the old out and glass in the new. I can tell your boat has been run with VERY BAD shaft alignment. How's the cutlass bearing (the rubber bushing in the strut) ? Any trans damage? We'd also love to see some more pictures. |

When you get the new log glassed back in, you'll want to take a look at this video
Also, here's a better link directly to Buck's angled logs less the packing gland. EDIT: Another thought is to look on site for someone parting out a hull. They could cut out the log and get it over to you. |
