Starting up a new tranny today on my 83 rebuild. She shifts into forward nice and smooth, but shifting into reverse makes a hard shift. Reverse works great with no load on it, but the shift into it seams off. Any thoughts? Taking her on the 2nd maiden voyage Monday! Seats going in tomorrow!

Does it shift hard by hand if you move the lever at tranny?

Yes it did. I put it in reverse as soft as I could from the stick and it was improved. Note that I wasn't slamming into reverse to begin with.
