Wondering if anyone has had success replacing the inside wire of the metal-clad choke cable? It seems to be a lot easier to just slide a new wire into the cable housing than have to pull up the floors to route a new complete cable assembly. Can't seem to find anyone who has such a wire, tho....
Should we just bite the bullet and replace the whole thing?

Thanks, John

If the inside cable needs replacing the outer sure can't be far behind right? Not many here that have a manual choke---

1955 Atom Skier has the manual choke. My neighbor's '46 Higgins also has one. Actually, that's the one that's broken.

John,
You really need to spend more time around classic boats. It's not just your Atom or the neighbors Higgins. Don't you have an ACBS chapter in your area? Glacier Lakes comes to mind.

The core wire from an old teleflex or morse cable will fit, and they're stainless!

Glacier Lakes members for six years. Pewaukee show winners with our '59 Chetek lapstrake. Not sure where you are going with the "need to be around classic boats"? Just asking a question of another group of classic boating enthusiasts who may have a clue or two.

I just found a NOS manual choke conversion kit in my dads basement the other day, automotive aftermarket sources may be more common if you search along those lines, yes you can replace just the core but if I did that I would spend some significant time trying to work some pretty serious oil then grease through the jacket.

Town of Vernon, Waukesha County. The Higgins is a 17' utility with the in-line Chrysler 6. I believe it's the Ace.

FYI,

A machinist friend found the core wire at a vendor. .051 solid copper. Now to find out if the outer cable is good or not!
