I too have a feeling ply sheet size was considered. On the Atom, they were able to skin both hull sides with the 4 foot width. They were frugal back then!

I tried laying out at a bias to get the extra length needed to have only one scarf and the grain was too far off plane so I have decided to keep with the two scarf joints. They get better as I go. If all goes well it won't end up a painted boat
