Yea Kevin, that's Tims boat. I forgot some of you visit there too. He was over last night helping me reduce the stockpile of grain beverages while I polished copper/brass. |

Looking back I'd say its always worth it to pay a premium for something that is exceptionally nice and/or rare. That boat, if it's mint and doesn't have a soft floor is worth it to the right buyer. Maybe it will even be worth more someday.

I couldn't agree more. I overpaid for my Mustang by most opinions, but it was complete and not too beat up. There is a lot of $ and time chasing down missing parts and a gel job is more than most of these things bring. To me it makes sense to buy the best one you can find. That orange one that sold recently pulled pretty good money. |

You might be right about Craigslist not being the place to find the right buyer, but he found us (or should I say we found him). To the right buyer, that boat may be worth every penny he's asking because it's a unicorn. I wonder if he's listed it on all the inboard sites too?
I don't think many of us keep close tabs on how much we spend when we buy some of these "great deal" boats. I know by the time I got my SS cleaned up and running, I was a couple 'o gees lighter and that's not saying much. I sure do like this old boat. |

Craigslist is great. Most of the boats we've bought have been because of Craigslist, including Dave's mint BFN that came from way down in Texas. What's a better source?

I'm not sure what to say; but, that 200 HP Evinrude has to make that boat S and Get? I'll put something like that on my "If you had more then one boat comment thread post"

I was telling Someone the other day that I should name my boat "craigslist". My first boat, and second one were found on Craigslist, along with almost all of the audio equipment, and a vast assortment of things associated with it. A few years back I even bought a Ford Excursion diesel on Craigslist (that was a mistake).

Yep, It did have an admittedly blown up gt40 though. Pulled it home and thought I was gonna pay for a divorce too. :) I'm in it for a bit more now but still less than a trailer for a new g series costs. Can't complain and my ol lady digs it. More importantly she loves using it with the kid. |

It definitely would go a lot faster if that motor was was lifted about 6 to 8 inches. All that extra lower unit dragging in the water will REALLY slow you down. |

Steve, Maybe some jack but 6 to 8 might be too much? I know jack plates have become the norm these days but the cav plate looks to be at the same level as the bottom of hull which would be the proper set up. I didn't notice but what did you do on the Bass? |

The set up has changed considerably when trying to run for max speed. Most Speed props are all designed to run with one blade in the water, so customary set up is to have low water pickups and run half of the nose cone at the bottom of the hull. Then when you get above 70 mph, you can even lift higher. There is some rule of thumb, I think it is 1" for every 10 mph, of course there is a limit to that too. I am conservative on the bass, my low water pickups are on the top side of the nose cone, so I run mine with 2/3 of the nose cone below the bottom of the hull. I need to rework the motor so my temp and water pressure gauges work more consistently (along with a general refresh of everything else), then I might feel more comfortable raising it up. |

Note: if you are doing anything other then top speed runs, you would not want to run that set up, i.e. the motor that high.
OH and you definitely do not want to try this if your lower unit has the water pick up between the nose cone and cavitation plate - this is speed theory only, not a set up for skiing or anything else, you can very quickly overheat and wreck an engine running this way without a properly equipped motor... |

And that is the reason why you need a water pressure gauge like mentioned in that other thread

It sure has! It even looks like there are washed out areas indicating he probably used latex house paint! This one would need to be looked at real close since there are so many other back yard hack jobs on it. A major concern would be stringers. |

I don't see much molesting going on. Just the removal of the stripes and rub rail.
If I had 1700 I'd be heading to pick it up. Pete, I also have Trim. |

Def a Ski Nautique. My $ says it was yellow originally then some genius painted it yellow rather a buff job. Been listed for awhile, he's come down a few hundred.

The sash pod location and arrangement is correct. The dash plate has been replaced. I see that all the aluminum trim has been removed. The ski tow bar has been replaced as well as as the throttle controller. To name a few.

The Hydrodyne is set up as a tow boat, not for top speed I believe it hit a little over 60 when we took it out with my constant speed prop on it. It has a different engine on it than it did in the earlier photo. I drove Mark's with an Optimax 250 and it was VERY fast up to 65. He has an Erude on it now. Anyway, here is a good photo of the trailer. It was not made by Hydrodyne, it was made for them by someone. You can see why I thought it looked similar. |

Funny thing is, the ad is actually pretty good. Nice wake/boat pictures, they did a good job showing the boat in action. Too bad they don't know what they are driving. Who gets to sit on the 1200 watts?
