Bought today- '82 nautique 'Cyndi Benzel' edition...her signature emblazoned on the hull sides.
I know who she is, is this a special edition or something? Thx

I found this ...

"This 1982 Boat has some water ski history. It was won by Cyndi Benzel in the 1982 World Slalom Ski Tournament. I am the 3rd owner and have had the boat since 1990 ..."

That's the one, literally, It is a bit rougher than this photo shows, but runs great and is very solid. Not sure exactly what to do with it......

I'd like to clean the graphics a bit, bit of touch-up. I'll make a tracing of her painted-on name so a future owner could re-apply it if so desired. Sorry Cyndi, mean no dis...

So, I'm at a crossroads with this boat.
I've got it apart in order to restore the gelcoat and graphics, etc.
But.......I'm not Cyndi Benzel
Neither is my wife.
So I probably won't write her name on it again, unless........
there is any chance Cyndi Benzel wants her boat back.
I understand this boat was a skiing 'award' for her. Maybe her kids want it, or her grandkids. Maybe she'd like to have them ski behind her old boat.
Your thoughts/ideas/suggestions.
Perhaps she can be located............anyone know?

Google should be able to find her in a matter of minutes.

She's still skiing these days.

Bet you could contact her thru the link below

Remove the name, you have just another old boat. (There's an 82 in my side yard, if you are looking for another. Wont' find one much closer) Leave the name, and you've got a cool story that someone will ask about each time you take it out. My $.02 BKH

Thank you all for the replies. And Keno for the link.
I wasn't being lazy (this time). I did google, but in my zeal to find the 'water skiing' Cyndi Benzel I completely overlooked the 'wedding planner' Cyndi who........
wrote me 2 very nice emails.
In it she briefly summarized her years with Correct Craft, her family, her father......what a classy woman!
Her name stays on.

I never met Cyndi but I did ski with her brother Rocky and her Father Johnny back in the late 70's on Winchester Lake in Sacramento where she got her start. Cyndi was already away on the tour, one of my friends dated Cyndi for a while. Her maiden name was Matranga before she married David Benzel, as I recall both were water ski champions back then.
They opened a water ski school in Florida if I remember correctly and it was advertised monthly in Water Ski magazine.
Side note, Sacramento had a strong waterski history, Deena Brush, later Denna Mapple also came out of Sacramento a few years after Cyndi.

Classy move keeping the name on that boat. When I first started receiving Water Ski magazine Cyndi was featured in nearly every issue.

Edit, Typos fixed

I think I see a couple of typos

You forgot the r in Brush and Todd is way off on the spelling, it should be David

To add to any confusion, there was a "Cyndi Todd" after all...

Is this boat just another toy to add to your collection?

Oh sure.....I plan to park it alongside the unfinished '86 SN, behind the unfinished '92 Nascar, and in front of the unfinished Dunphy. They all go in the unfinished new barn, out in the back of the unfinished yard.

Come on down to Sonoma, I'll give you a tour of the unfinished winery. We can even crack a nice bottle of Cab....after it's finished aging.

Ha, only collection I have is the Collection of the Unfinished.

Sounds good, where do you ski near Sonoma?

My boat is finished, but my 1911 Home is always under construction and my 66 Vette is years away from completion so I know about projects and plan around them also.

Better than me. I start with a collection of the finished and end up with a collection of the unfinished.
